Time for tires.

Has anyone put schwalbe marathons on your tandem? I have them on a touring bike and have been very happy but am not sure as to how they will hold up under heavier loads. Team weight = 360 lbs. If not marathons any suggestions?

Team all up weight of 400lbs and use the marathons in 26x 1.4. I got these on recommendation of other forum members and proved to be a great tyre.

Never have used Schwalbes; however have heard all good reports on them.

I used Schwalbe marathon racers on my tandem. Team weight 380 and they ride great. No issues.

We're a tandem team just a touch under 300lbs and we've been riding Schwalbe Stelvio 700x23s for almost a year and we love them. If you like to go fast these babies really zip and have a top recommended pressure of 145lbs...not that I'd ever pump them nearly that high but we usually run them at 120/125 and they flat out fly.
Now, with that said, I'll soon be switching to my current favorite tire I ride on all my singles, Conti 4000. Great tire, great traction, ultra durable, looks great(very important) and is finely made. They're kinda tough to find in 25c but they're out there.
Toss a lightweight tube in either of these and your tandem will really move!

I have put these on our tandem. Looks like they will last a long while. I put these on for a summer of touring but I sure noticed the differance from the stelvio's they replaced, much slower tire but for tour I think they will be great.

I use the Stelvio on my Bike Friday and find them somewhat soft,..but I'm sure they are, structurally, different than the Marathons. I put Armadillos on our tandem, we weigh around 260 as a team, and they are pretty hard,....but,...with all the crud on our roads in springtime, I don't worry about messing with flats. Otherwise,...fwiw,...I prefer the Conti for general purpose,..as mentioned elsewhere,..in a 25. Nice compromise,...good durability and nice ride.

Some comments in a recumbent group on short lived Stelvios rang
a bell with me, I had one on the front of my bent (406 size) and
had a sidewall blowout through a rip that was not from tire damage.
Rip was 3cm long just above the bead. Same failure reported by
several others. Tire had about 2kmi on it at the time, with tread in
great condition.

I have Schwalbe Marathon Plus on my tandem. 26" x 1.5". Bikes are for riding, not for flat-changing-practice. :D
