Okay I just sold my old conversion to a friend (it has nitto bullorns on it 42cm I think) Im looking for somthing much more narrow than that: maybe 38 or lower. I saw that Nitto has 38s but is there even smaller than that? Any company will do so long as its not total ass, but I would rather stick with Nitto as I really enjoyed the quality of the last horns I had.

Chopped flat bars and bar-ends. You can make 10cm ones!

syntace stratos (size S) are 39 cm outside to outside, which is like 37 c-c.

Not smaller than 38cms, I know, but are both pretty narrow bars.

Nitto RB-21's come in 38cm sizes:

As do the Soma Urban Pursuit bars:

Uhhhh there IS a reason they aren't typically made that small, you know.

Oh ok. Just checking that you know bars like that suck to ride with. Maybe you could bend a paper clip into a U shape and use that.

Not if you're zipping between cars and trucks on crowded city streets.

Bars narrower than your shoulders don't really make all that much sense, as your shoulders still have to get through a given space.

I run 40mm Nittos and I really can't see being comfortable on anything smaller, but I'm kinda a big boy.

Eh, I have to disagree. I've got some narrow chop 'n flops that work great. Not that I'm encouraging it, but if you're filtering you're going to want narrow bars. Narrow risers would suck to ride with, but the forward hand position of bullhorns give you back most of the leverage you need.

Very untrue.

When I first read that, I disagreed with you. Then I tried to think of ways to justify it and realized that often times, because the bike is lower, it has to squeeze through spaces while your upper body doesn't (i.e. past mirrors and such). Not to mention you can rotate your body to become narrower.

The reality is that running 36cm bars is just not going to buy you that much more space unless you're unusually skinny. I've got a fairly broad set of shoulders, so even rotating to some extent doesn't help, especially if you have a bag on. I've got some 'narrower' bars -- narrowest is probably 38-40cm, chopped flat bars -- but I'm just as able to get by with 44cm bulls. Ultra narrow bars are a false economy, especially considering the physiological disadvantages during the 99% of time you're not stuck in between a bus and a van.

Small bars let you FEEL small. You can ride thru the head of a needle if you FEEL small enough. :D
Its all psychological. Be the bullet. :p

Mine are 36cm and perfect for me. Very comfortable. Note that I am a fairly small person, though - I don't recommend bars like this for someone six inches taller than me.

I'm more comfortable on my Nitto 38's because my shoulders curve inward naturally. However even on my old 40cm's I occasionally clipped my bag on mirrors and the like. It won't buy you much space after a point; the only plus after a certain size is that your hands aren't guaranteed to hit first all the time.
