I'm going on the Seattle to Portland ride this year (two days, 100 miles each) and trying to get ready. But I'm confused. Most training programs call for rest days.

I can't rest. I commute by bike 17 total miles a day. Can taking it really easy count as resting?
I've been doing 50-60 miles on one weekend day and 20-30 the other, which I will up as the ride gets closer.
I have a heart rate monitor and have no idea how to add it to my workout.

I'm 53. I've been riding a lot since August (3000 miles or so I think) I've gone form 193 to 148 pounds.

So, what I'm asking for is WHERE to look for help, or HOW to go about setting up a program that will work for me. I don't expect someone here to do it, but general advice or places to get info would sure help.

Thanks

No, you don't need to rest. Just take it easy two days/week.
