So my girlfriend spends $170 for this supposedly fantastic seat. http://www.selleanatomica.com/ After waiting for several weeks to get it she gets a wrong colored botched seat, actually it's the Brooks B-17 with a lousy crooked hole cut in the middle. The seat looks nothing like the seat advertised on the website. She also tried contacting the company and has had no help in trying to resolve this problem. Anyone order from this web-site and have problems before ?

Wow. The love for those seats has been approaching religous levels latley. To hear the way people were talking about them they blew brooks saddles out of the water. I had never seen a close up picture until now, and that really looks like crap. Good luck! Oh and post this over at the MTBR forums- they may have input over there as a bunch of people have ordered them there latley.

First of all that is not a brooks B17. Secondly, that hole doesn't look crooked it looks exactly like the pictures on the website. Lastly, does your girlfriend have any complains about how it rides? Or just how it looks now that he has bought a saddle that that she already knew looks weird?

I love this statement on their website:
We make no guarantees or promises
They talk about on their website that their prototypes where modified Brooks saddles ie :
Selle An-Atomica™ prototypes and the first consumer products were developed with remanufactured, relabeled Brooks components. Those products will not be sold to retailers and OEMs, other than for test & evaluation purposes prior to release of our Patent Pending Wisconsin made products.
So maybe they sent you a protoype by mistake?
It is however a horrible horrible website, I'm amazed your girlfriend could even work out to order anything. If you paid with a credit card, you might want to take it up with the credit card company, they could potentially help.

huh, i have heard the seats are excellent and so is the customer service...
did you try a phonecall AND an email? some companies wok better with one than the other.
if you really hate it that much try and sell it over on mtbr.com; they seem to be highly covetted ass-holders over there.

I honestly assumed everyone was so pissed with that avatar they'd never want to see it again. I have avatars turned off so I didn't even see it for like a year or two until I edited some user settings recently and saw the little guy still rubbing away. He'll be back the day Bush is out of office.

Sweet, now we have TWO things to look forward to on 1/20/09.
I had a good experience. Personalized service and my saddle showed up early and as described. I'm not quite sold on it yet... super comfortable - but I'm thinking I like my Brooks Swallow better.

i would be afraid that my junk would slip between the slits in the leather and be caused extraordinary pain
I don't think that is a brooks anyway. The rivets looks small and ****ty and it has their logo all over it.
It's clearly modeled on a brooks but I thought that was this companies whole gimmick?

i wouldn't be surprised in the saddle is made by brooks, but with this companies name stamped on it and different tanning color/rivets etc
i'm sure brooks has the art of making leather saddles down cold

yeah, that is a picture of the REAL seat she was supposed to get in the mail. I didn't post the actual picture hoping you all know how a B-17 already looks.

Very comfortable.
Slot works.
I've had mine on two centuries and plenty of roller sessions.
I'm not sold on the width as I come from a Brooks Swallow and Swift, which are narrower.
Not a bad saddle, but not for everyone.

Its the waterproofed version, Titanico.

These saddles are highly spoken of by many experienced cyclists. I talked with a local bike shop owner and he had one on his Moulton for about 2000 miles with no problems. Grant Peterson of Rivendell has 1500 miles on one and likes his very well.
As far as your "junk" getting trapped.....if your stuff is that tiny, you do have a problem!
There are plenty of non-leather saddles out there with slots so don't pick on this one. Its really interesting that many of the comments slamming this saddle are born out of absolutely no experience.
The fact that one customer didn't get what they ordered and is having troubles getting service is the real issue, not whether the saddle performs as advertised. This company does modify customer owned Brooks saddles with their slot cut out and laminated leather. They do this and in the process restamp the saddle. It appears that the gal received someone elses modified Brooks saddle by mistake. I would keep making attempts to contact the company by telephone (during business hours) or go through one of their authorized dealers and compare what they received with what the dealer has in stock.
From their website:
"George Bush gave up running a few years ago due to a knee injury, but the 59 year-old likes to keep fit. He told USA Today's Sal Ruibal, "I love exercise. Prior to learning about mountain biking, I was a jogger. And then, like a lot of baby boomers, my knees gave out. I believe that mountain biking is going to be an outlet for a lot of people my age. I'm 59, and people are going to realize you get as much aerobic exercise - if not more - on the mountain bike without being hobbled." Cycling News August 16, 2005"
And here I thought his knees had given out from all of those rough corporate bjs. Learn something new every day.

That sentence alone is enough to turn me off these saddles.
In the future would you please
-not mention rivendell
-use regular fonts and no funky colours
-clearly state if you work for selle ass-tomica or whatever it is, are friends with the manager's little sister etc.

I laughed when I first saw this saddle. That is the correct saddle. There is no lack of fuel for joking.
I recommend you try riding it. I have ridden on one since September. I did the ~400 mile/4 day DALMAC ride on one. They are extremely comfortable and require almost no break in. These saddles are designed for long distance riding.
I tried riding a Brooks Pro for 6 months. It was masochistic for me. My ass did not like it. I HAD to give up on it. Not saying Brooks are bad, just that my ass is different. From day one, my ass liked the Anatomica.
These are American hand made in Cheese Head Wisconsin. I am not affiliated in any way with the company.
The very basis of the construction goes so against all percieved intelligence that is borders on an insult: "Oh yeah, leather saddles are trendy. Well, let´s do a cheap copy of Brooks design with the added gimmick OF CUTTING OFF THE PART THAT RETAINS THE SADDLE TENSION". I am sure they are massively comfortable for a better part of the first week but I would love to see those things after a few days of rain. But how silly of me, people who buy this kind of crap obviously never ride if the weather is bad, either

I ride in the rain regularly. They put some kind of strip/coating on the underside of the leather.
The only problems I have had are the tension screw coming loose (solved this by using locktite) and squeaking (have not solved this). I have contacted the manufacturer about both of these issues. I put up with the sqeaking because it is so comfy.
I do not think this saddle is for everyone. It is definately not a fashion statement! I do not understand how people can be so against something without any experience with it.
I do not know if castratos are more mellow, but that company better have very very good legal insurance, nonetheless.

Has anyone here watched their product videos (http://www.selleanatomica.com/Product%20Info.htm#MPEG_file_links)? I can't tell if I should be jerking off or crying in horror. They may not be safe for work. I honestly can't tell.

Not true.
They are using a waterproof compound on the leather.
I ride brevets and centuries in the rain and occasional snow. My Anatomica has been subject to some rain and it will see much more this season.
Also not a 'cheap' copy. The designer / rider liked his Brooks and he thought he could improve on it, so he modded, tested, filmed, modded, tested, etc.
I'm not a company man. I ride Brooks and I tried the An-Atomica. Its very comortable. So far I like it but I'm not sold on it due to the width.

Loosening of the tension screw can be fixed with locktite or a lock nut.
Squeaking does happen. Put a bit of grease under the leather where it contacts the rails.
Sometimes I think the SS/FG forum was designed so people can s**t all over everyone elses bikes/clothes/saddles/gear ratios/bags/riding style/lifestyle/etc.

Those things look ridiculous - a leather model of the delicate lotus flower of love. However, I doubt there's much chance of a ball sack slipping through, unless you guys ride it naked.
