View Full Version : Eastern lowdown?
Is the eastern lowdon a decent platform? I was thinking of getting it and putting my profile 3pc crank on it.

Not really, it's pretty low end.

Along with being low end it's got a pretty small tt length. If you can save up just a little more you could get the Paydirt or DK General Lee which are alot better.

From what I read on here, basically anything Eastern sucks.

why is that? their completes come with decent spec for the money and their parts and frames are certainly nothing to complain abut from what i hear.

as i have said in prior times the eastern bikes come with some decent bits. The stock eastern bikes are generally lighter than a stock bike of the same price. I dont think you will have any trouble with the frame or any of the major components. The bit i and what seems to be a few others had trouble with was the rear hub. Though in the 07 series they seem to have eliminated the problem unless you fiddle with the cones in the wrong way. I run an eastern frame, eastern forks and cranks and thus far have had no problems. The eastern parts are fairly light and strong enough for some one weighing 75kg whatever that is in pounds.

Not true.
I'd run their cassette, cranks(not the ti ones), grips, bar ends, and maybe sprocket.
I just don't like the look of them, but i'd trust the things they don't drill holes in or that are built normally.

Callum, again don't go on about lightness, i used to be a weight *****, then I realised how stupid I was. The 07' hubs are still ****. The unsealed ones anyway as my friends have found out. Eastern are a shoddy company and I strongly dislike them

eightdip. i sell eastern bikes for a living. and there is nothing really wrong with them. and as for weight. i can think of nothing worse than riding a really heavy bike. it just makes everything so much harder than it need be.
i agree with callum, why ride a heavy bike if you don't have to because it just makes every thing harder

The unsealed cassettes are a bad idea, but you've never had one, so don't hate.
I know at least two people that have the other Eastern cassette. Both of them are sketchy as hell and don't take care of their bikes. And both of them have the hub still running smooth after more then a year. I think it's a great hub, just it comes with a ****ty rim.

You should see the state of those hubs, hell they are pretty sketchy but still.

I have seen them, and ridden two of them.
The sealed ones are smooth and great except the rims that they come built up with.

Yeah the sealed ones are fine. The unsealed however...

i had an unsealed one. it had to be replaced within 3 months. but still what else have eastern done wrong other than try to innovate some products that will maybe change bmx stunting for the better. they are just trying to get out of the would, and change it up a bit.

But BMX parts are not made better with holes in it, no matter how far you want to stretch things.

depends weather your priorities lie with losing weight, or making a strong bike. and personally being light and not doing big hucks i dont need very much strength from my bikes. and i also have the resources to get new parts when they are needed.
