Have been putting info recieved from bikeforums to good use, thanks to everybody who replied. I seem to have developed a new problem. After a race last week, had a pain in the right leg, above the front of the knee, (quadricep?). There seemed to a line of pain (dull) going into the muscle. The pain spread to the muscle (very dull, but irritating). Gave it some rest for 3 days, changed cleat postion, and then did a fairly tough sprint session, and its was v sore after for a couple of days, took some anti-inflammatories for the first few days. Any ideas or suggestions as to what it is, and more importantly how to get rid of it, before it gets too serious. Does it sound like knee tendonitis?
Dying to get back cycling!

Go to a doctor and get a referral to a good physical therapist, someone that has experience with (at the very least) athletes, and, (at best) someone with experience with cycling and the different stresses put on the knees while riding. You might also try a professional fit, if you haven't already, or something similar. Never hurts to have someone else take a look at your position on the bike, even if you're a good bike fitter. It could be any number of things.

Hate to say this, but it just sounds like regular muscle soreness, maybe a pulled muscle. Either way, your probably doing the right thing by resting and takind anti-inflammatories...

I refinished floors recently, and was on my knees for two weeks, wearing old, thin kneepads. A week after I finished, I could hardly walk, my left knee was so sore. Ice for 15 minutes really helped, temporarily. But then I went to my doc and he gave me a cortizone injection. Instant healing! Three weeks later, my knee is a little stiff, but I can walk and bike. Having learned a lesson, I went down to Lowes and bought a pair of $30 kneepads, the gel kind that the building pros who are on their knees all day wear. Kind of pricey, but I have used them several times for gardening, and haven't felt any knee pain yet. Very comfortable.
