A year ago I helped a car free neighbor move some furniture. He used a car sharing program to rent a pickup truck for a few hours. We had to walk about 5 blocks to get the truck. Last week the apartment building across the street converted 4 parking spaces to flexcar spaces- 3 sedans and a pickup truck. I'm not a member but if I choose to join it couldn't be any more convenient. There are no legal parking spaces between my door and the flex car spaces. Where will this process end- car sharing on every block?

I wish we had a flex car system in my neck of the woods. I have to actually take the lightrail to rent a car at $90.00 dollars a day. It still beats having to own a vehicle.

Hey look at that. There are 4 flexcars within a mile of my apartment. Too bad they don't have any near the apartment I'll be moving into next month. I'm getting married and I think this could go a long way towards convincing my new bride that she doesn't need a car (right now she's not sure).

Flexcar seems much better than Zipcar. Zipcar's membership fees are a bit unreasonable.

 I never knew that Jersey had all these light rails. I should try stopping in Jersey sometime instead of just passing through.

When you need to move something big, check out your local home improvement store. You can often rent a pickup for a few hours for not too much money. No membership required.

Jersey only has two lightrail lines. I just happen to live near one that allows me to work, shop and live carfree. :)

I simply moved next to a lightrail line and found a job on the other end. You can do the same thing too. It was simple.

Last time I did this it was $19.95 for 90 minutes. That was lots of time to load, drop off the goods and get back to the store. Additional time wasn't that expensive either.

It might be cheaper to invest in a bike trailer than a flexcar service, especially if you're hauling light loads (100 to 200 pounds, say) once a week or so. It's a shame to use a 2000 pound gas-burner to carry 200 pounds!
