How much do you mean by cheapie? Don't get the mirraco.

by cheap i mean in the $500 range, i will be riding around campus, skateparks, street, all that stuff with it. the eastern is looking the most appealing at the moment.

Oh, I don't really consider that to be cheap but thats me. I don't really know much yet so I'll let one of the other guys take this.

One, Eastern is not your best bet. Two, the search function will be your new best friend until you find something that you can not find.

okay, for example, why wouldn't the eastern be my best bet? it is full cromo, well priced, pretty good looking, decently specc'd (from my limited knowledge)

Eastern for the most part is a pretty shady company that does not make trustyworthy parts. The most frequent problem with their completes is that their back hub is known to explode.

A mechanic I work with who is big into BMX, and whose employer sells Mirraco, said they are not very good bikes.

Seems to me like everyone one this forum hates eastern. I don't know why though. Have you looked at
www.danscomp.com
If you haven't, take a look at that site.

i'm in canada. i'm not ordering from danscomp, or 3ride for that matter, nor albes.
okay, so are there any good alternatives?

You could probably find a DK Sixpack for under $500, my friend just picked up a Haro Backtrail X3 for $300, not the best looking bike but it's solid.
Have you tried looking at tenpack? Thats where my shop gets a lot of the stuff from and they're located in Canada, I believe in Hongcouver.

Ordering from albes would be good for you, it's pretty close so the shiping wouldnt be long. And even after taxes, duty fee's and the exchange rate it's still cheaper then buying from a shop here. I buy my parts from albes. Your best bet would probly be something from DK. Either a 6 pack, 4 pack, cleveland, or dayton.

Fuzzy is right, the markup here on bikes is still more then the shipping and duties you get from mailorders.

I'd get:
Integral expo
DK dayton
WTP 4 seasons
Fit Team
Eastern Jane
one of those will be your best bet.
i've noticed to that it seems eastern isn't the best company out there and i was looking into buying the eastern element but now i'm not to sure on wheather or not to go there, although i've had a few really good riders still recommened it and they all just said replace the cassette when you get it.

those are all way outside my pricepoint. the 4 seasons, team, and jane anyways.

i just looked at the Stolen Heist, and i'm very impressed. anyone have opinions? right now i'm between the heist and the sequence, but again, i have all summer to decide. price range is about 500 CAD, or 400 US to factor in shipping and customs.

Barely. After everything it's probly no more then $40 or $50 bucks out, and you wouldn't regret spending that extra bit.

see the thing is, my friend basically recommended anything that is running a casette. i'm a fresh rider, i really have no experience at all, so i'm hesitant about dropping the big $$ on a bike that i might not even end up liking.
