I think the Wippet was at the Hip Century ride last year as well.

We noticed the route markers point left....directly into the wind for a 5-8 mile segment.

Those 5-8 miles ( I think it was more like 10) perhaps were the toughest miles I have ridden in a long time. That wind was just unrelentless and actually there were a couple of decent sized hills along that green route that added to pain. The only reason I started that green route was because I was planning on being able to fly during the last 10-15 miles with the wind at my back. That really never happened, I don't know if the wind changed direction or I was just too tired to benefit from the tailwind. I did forego returning to the rest stop for a 4th time because I knew that it would have added an extra 3 miles of directy riding west into the wind. I still ended up with 100.13 miles because we missed a turn in the very beginning that added about 3 or 4 extra miles.

You do have to agree though that heading east out of the rest stop was pretty fun with that huge tail wind, we were cruising along at about 28 mph without any real effort, we all knew there would be a price to pay and we did for sure.
