Commuting - Help! My new helmet mirror #$%@^

I think I just wasted $13 unless you's guy's can help. I bought the little round helmet mirror Blackburn. I can't get a good view out of it. I end up fiddling with it when I should be watching traffic. Bike shop is too far away to return it. I have a Giro transfer helmet and have the sticky part over and above to the left of my left eye on the helmet. Where do I mount this thing?

The closer to your eye, the more you'll see at once. I don't know about your specific mirror or helmet. I find that finding the right place to put a mirror on can be challenging. I have a Bell Citi and I think the thing must be teflon coated; I can't get any adhesive to stick to it for more than a couple of days.

Have you used helmet mirrors (or eyeglass mirrors) before? You get full view by sweeping with your head, same as when using handlebar mirrors you sweep with the bar (though with helmet mirrors sweeping doesn't cause you to veer into traffic).

I generally adjust the mirror so that I can just barely see the side of my head. I usually have to move my head just slightly to the left to see directly behind me; without moving I can see cars in the same lane as me back maybe 100 feet or so, or anybody in the other lane.

I can adjust so that I can see right behind me without moving my head but I find that isn't the best for me.

I have a "Third Eye" mirror and this works for me. I stuck my mirror just below the visor and then loosley wrapped a zip tie through one of the slits in the visor to keep the mirror in place because after a while, it started to shift out of place when I went over bumps. Also, I used a glue gun and hot glued the mirrior onto the helmet as the adhesive let go after a few weeks.

FWIW, since I couldn't get anything to stick to the Bell Citi (I was trying to mount both Third Eye and CycleAware Reflex mirrors) I finally gave up and mounted a Take-A-Look on the helmet's visor (hanging down from it), securing it with a small piece of duct tape. It's been there for a number of months now, maybe a year, can't remember.

Cool. I like the tail head light. Or is it a head tail light? Never thought of that. :o

I appreciate the responses and the photo. Anyone have a picture of one mounted without a visor? I'm adding electrical tape for the ride home. Anyone use a blackburn successfully.

I'm wondering if your problem is just with the mirror's being on the "wrong" side. I know that's why I have so much difficulty with my own helmet mirror, and I've often wondered if I'm the only one with that issue. My right eye is dominant to the extreme. I'm unable to close just my right eye, and if anything is visible to the right eye, that's where my brain wants both of them focused. I have to make a distinct mental effort to focus both eyes on an empty spot to the front, and that brings the objects in the mirror into focus for my left eye. I'm only successful about 70-80% of the time. Mounting the mirror on the right side would seem to be the answer, but the configuration of the one I own seems to preclude that.

Oh no, I've been trying to find a helmet mirror for my helmet and I have a Bell Citi as well. Do they really not stick to it? Am I better off with a handlebar mirror?

I bought a third eye helmet mirror that broke after about 3 weeks use (I ride every day). I needed another mirror immediately while on a tour so stopped by a bike shop on the route and purchased another third eye mirror that clipped on my eyeglasses. The mount that clips on the eyeglasses broke 2 weeks later. I gave up and I'm not going to throw good money after bad ordering replacement parts. I found a cheap mirror that clamps on the handlebar that’s been good for 6 months now.
