Texas - Cuda's Ride plans: 4/21 & 4/22

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
With the intent to get in as many miles as I can this weekend before getting layed up again for a few weeks, here is my plan for riding this weekend. Anyone who wants to join is more than welcome to. :)
4/21
Plan A: PBA Distance Builder (first group): 40-50mi @ 16-18mph. Starting at XL Cycle in Plano (corner of independance and legacy) at 7:30 am.
Plan B: RBM 36mi Tour of Sache group ride at 9:05 am. Starting Richardson Bikemart, Coit & Campbell. Plan B is basically in case I have to stay up late Friday night getting a final project done for school. I'll probably post tomorrow evening which is likely to be where I'll be.
4/22
Plan A: RBM 27, 35 or 46 mi route with who ever shows up to ride with me. Route will be chosen that morning on how we all feel and who shows up.
Plan B: Same as plan A, but the route down to White Rock lake with a lap or two around the lake and then back.
Probably a 16-17mph pace, everyone is more than welcome to come out and join up. We'll try to regroup fairly often if needed.
if I ride it will be the 27 with RBM on Saturday.
Could do a Sunday afternoon ride, can't ride in the morning, have commitments at church. Would opt for WhiteRock.
Some time we need to plan an RBM to light rail to WhiteRock ride. See how bikes and trains mix.

Im leading the PBA tweeners saturday morning. Its about 30 miles in 2 hours. Im no good for sunday.
Thanks for the update on availablilty.
Jeff, come out and ride out with the 36mi group with me, then take an extra pit stop at the 27mi turn around and wait for them to ride back with.
Sunday I could probably be perswaded to do a later ride. Temps will only be in the 80's, but I need to make sure I get the sunscreen on good befor we head out. Screwed up last sunday afternoon DB ride and my sleeves rode up higher than where I applied sunscreen. My doc chewed me out a bit on that one when I saw him a few days later.

What happened to PBA century on Sat.?
A very small group of us went last saturday, but the majority of the group wimped out
because of the high winds and the cold. Theyre giving it another try this saturday.
Check out http://www.planobicycle.org/pba/ (http://www.planobycycle.org) to check the start times. Different speeds start at different
times.
There's a PBA group going on Saturday, but I don't think I'm going to be ready for a full century, break in the middle or not. Just haven't been putting in enough miles lately to be able to judge my conditioning well enough to know if I could go that far without crawling back and eventually falling into a ditch somewhere. 40-50 sounds like a much better fit for me right now. :)

I think Kevin and gotten a few others together to do a 60 mile option. If you look at the course it will be easy to cut off a shorter distance.

Some people are organizing a half-century. Half ride, half drive. Theyre swapping the vehicle at the halfway point.

Jon -- check out the PBA forum. There is going to be a group of us doing ~60 miles. We are going to start with the group doing the century then we are going to break off. I think we finally have a ride leader. He is going to keep the pace in the 17-19MPH range.
Hey, looks like a good setup. I certainly plan to be up at XL Cycle and head out with the pack. Hopefully I'll be able to get a decent amount of sleep the night before!

Thanks Kevin for getting the ball rolling on this
Not sure which group I'll finish with, going to let my legs decide that tomorrow. Now got to decide what bike to take, it'll either be the Flyte or the Gazelle. The cuda's wheels aren't quite finished, and the Serotta isn't going to be finished tonight. (Pics of the frame should be up tonight though! :D) I plan to be rocking my BikeForums jersey, so either way I'll be pretty easy to spot.

I'll be riding on Sat 21st with the slower DB group(DB2).
I look forward to meeting you, Cuda.
I'll be riding my orange Torelli, it's hard to miss.
See you there.

I'd be up for a Sunday ride. I usaully go later in the afternoon as the groups of people walking 5 wide on the trails cuts down by half almost.
I'm going to be groggy tomorrow morning, otherwise I'd be there ;)
How about the RBM 27mi route on Sunday, mid-morning-ish. The White Rock trail is pretty busy on the weekends.

White Rock isn't worth the trouble, its just too crowded. I much prefer the open road.

Come say hi to me if you see me. All gold bike, red helmet with horns.Hey... Guy with the Red/White Trek here... Did you get your 100 in last Saturday? I was trying to nurse the two frozen guys to somewhere with a pump/fresh tube before the slow leak got the better of us. We didn't make it. I somehow managed to get the clock over 100 miles right before I pulled back in to XL.
Looking forward to doing this thing again tomorrow! I'll probably be in blue jersey/socks/gloves unless I remember to wash my trusty old Saucony purple/blue pattern jersey when I get home tonight.

Looks like it will be about 60 degrees at 7:30AM. Its hard to decide whether or not I'll wear a long sleave jersey or a windbreaker or just a normal short sleave jersey.
I'll probably put on a long sleeve base layer to start and pull it off at the first stop. Small enough to keep in a back pocket after I take it off.

OK I think I have seen you before. Were you on the ride to downtown in Jan.? The West End Ride. Were you on a single speed?
Ok, I'll be rolling on the Flyte tomorrow, Gazelle on Sunday. :)
No Serotta today or this weekend most likely. :( Soon though. Hopefully.

Yes- big mistake. I got dropped in the hilly neighborhood just south of Forest Ln!

So Cuda...which ride are you doing? Are you going to do the 60 mile route with me and the 5-7 others or are you doing the DB ride?
I'll likely decide in the morning. About 70% chance I'll be doing the DB ride. If I feel really strong and you guys don't plan on hammering too hard I might push it. But right now, I'm tired and going to get some shut eye so I have some energy in the morning.
kevinmcdade
04-20-07, 10:04 PM
There shouldn't be any hammering. I'm saving my energy for Sunday. My goal for tomorrow is to stay in zone 2/3. I may spike it every now and then but nothing major.

I'm interested in testing the waters of a 20-30 mile ride Sunday mid morningish. I've been riding 8 miles 3-4 days a week now for the last 2 weeks, time to push it eh?

The ride that Mike and I did went to Sunnyvale with 7 other riders (9 total). We rode 73 miles and I averaged 18.6. We had a few incidents but overall it was a great ride with a great bunch of people. The best thing of all, we didn't have to ride all the way home in that headwind:) It was great riding with you Mike!!! You are a VERY strong rider!!!
Pathdoc, I spotted you this morning but didn't get a chance to say hello. You were riding the orange tortelli right? Which DB group were you with? I was with the DB group that started out with the century group and we did right at 50mi this morning as well. My stats for todays ride:
50.40 mi (and I don't know if I would have survived any more than that with that wind)
in 3:02:37, for an avg of 16.5mph. My group got stuck behind a work crew crawling along at like 3mph fr a half mile or so before we were able to get around it. The south wind just got stronger and stronger, and my quads were letting me know that my new foot position on the bike were working slightly different muscles as well.
As far as tomorrow goes:
I'm thinking of doing the 27mi route start at RBM at a nice relaxed pace. RC_Spinner, come on out and we'll ride with anyne else who shows up. Say around 9:30 or 10am?

We paid our dues to the wind gods on the way out. We got to cruise back home with the wind to our backs:D

Who lead the Tweener ride with that gold singlespeed with Deep V's? My custom will look almost exactly like, same gold with matching gold Deep V's. Weird.
That is Hobartlemagne. That gold bike is sweet.

Cuda,
I'm good for that 27mi tommorow morning. Now I can see if I set that Trek Incite properly :)

Sounds great. What time works best?
Might skip church and come ride. What time are ya'll going to ride? Martha has to stay home with Ryan.
I'm thinking 10am. Early enough to get back before it gets too warm and still have plenty of time left in the day.

Damn I alway have **** to do on days like this. I guess I can't complain, though. My year old son made 15 miles around the White Rock area for the first time this morning. Now if he can just pick up another 10 mph, I'll have a new training partner.
See you at 10 Chris. I'll be riding straight over from my apartment. Hopefully Jeff will be able to join us. Anyone else who wants to meet at RBM Richardson at 10 is welcome.
Good ride guys. Was hoping the wind would have died down more over night, but it was still a good ride.
75mi total for the two days. Not bad considering my year so far. :)
that wind and the new position on the Falcon has my arms and back hurting. I enjoyed the ride as well guys, thanks for the pulls.

good ride indeed! It was a good test for me fitness wise. That last hill across the driving range killed me, especially after my lay down. At the top Jeff said it was the last one, so i recovered quickly:)
Had fun!
