I'm not a racer and I may not even have the legs to be a racer, yet. However I am interested in checking it out. Are there any racers here that can point me in the right direction to getting info on racing in DFW.

Hey,
I don't check this side of the forum very often but take a look at txbra.org that's the official racing site of texas and they have a calendar in there as well. If you're around dallas or ft. worth there are races every Tuesday night (dallas) or Wednesday night (Ft. worth) that you can go check out just to see if you want to get involved. Don't forget about the Velodrome in Frisco, you can take a class up there which I keep meaning to do just to check it out.

I'd suggest riding with some fast group rides like the RBM saturday morning rides or with your group but you'll need to be able to keep up with the front of the group not the pack as the trickle back into the shop.

If you have any other Q's you can check out racing101 in the forum at txbra or you can send me a message or just go to one or volunteer at one. The Tuesday night races start at 5:30 over by Renner and George bush.

Good luck and see you out there. I promise you'll have tons of fun but warn you that it is an addiction!!!

Like DL stated, start by checking out some of the faster group rides. RBM and the PBA both offer some rides that will definitely challenge you. There aren't many road races in the DFW area. I have been racing on the Velodrome and have meant to hit up some of the Tuesday night crit action but have not gotten around to crits just yet. Also, if you are seriously considering racing, check out some of the local racing clubs. There is lots of knowledge within these clubs to help out someone new to racing.

KMD,
Are you doing mineral wells? There's a lot of bigger crits coming up at the end of the month too.

Let me know when you're racing at the velodrome, I'd like to come check out the track races.

I was training for Mineral Wells and getting ready for the race then my wife reminded me that we will be out of town that weekend:( I guess seeing the Mayweather/DeLahoya fight in Vegas will make up for the race:D

I am at the Velodrome for all of the Friday night races. The sprint series is going on tonight but my bike is at the shop until Tuesday.

you officially SUCK!! (said out of jealousy) I'll bet you a buck and I'll take De La Hoya in the 8th. That's awesome, you'll have to post a report on the trip. Enjoy.

Yes, you can only use a track specific bike on the Velodrome.

Some of the biggest race clubs/teams in the area are PACC (Plano Athletic Cycling Club), Matrix, Mirage, and GS Tenzing.

register quick, cat 5 races fill up pretty fast due to the field limit. They have both a 5a and a 5b race so you should be okay. I think you can go to bikereg.com to do it. I'll be out there with a blue KHS and yellow shoes. Say hi if you see me and good luck.
