Can you drop a ATB Crank on a Cross Check Frame or does it need a Road Crank... I have A cross check with only a double on it and I want to put a triple on it.

Yes, you can put pretty much any crank on it. ATB, touring, road or SS. If you go to a triple you might have to get a wider bottom bracket though, if your changing it youself then make sure you find out the correct width.

With ATB cranks, I found I had to use a shorter bottom bracket then even a double 105.

EDIT: The best crank out there right now, in my opinion, is the Shimano Treking. The best value is this one (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=81&subcategory=1031&brand=&sku=17945&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20ATB%20Cranks). Paired with an 11-34 cassette and you have a great range of gears! I have the XT version on my road bike. They also make an external bearing version for about $100 more.

I got my Shimano Hone crankset for 130 shipped, check around online and on ebay.
