Greetings. Just bought a used 2006 Specialized Tricross Comp w/ new tires, will be taking it to local bike shop to put together and tune-up. It does not have stem, seat, or pedals.

Seems to my naive eye to be in quite good shape. Curious about couple things...

Thoughts as to what stem, seat, and/or pedals to acquire? I weigh ~160 lbs, 5' 8". Bike frame is a 52.

Will be riding mainly on paved county/state roads, paved & dirt bike paths, etc., anywhere from 5 to 100 miles.

Next to purchase will be shoes, helmet, gear to carry food/drinks, etc., so will be checking out the appropriate threads for these items too.

What would have been good price to pay for such a bike? Yea, I know, the deal is done, and she's in my hands,,, :) just that this is the first real bike have bought, and wonder if $850 was a good deal or not.

Took the bike to a LBS for putting it together and tune-up, etc. Looks quite good so far! Should be done by this Wednesday :D. So, now I need some advice on few items. Am in process of searching/scanning other threads for these goodies, but would appreciate any replies here too. thanks! As said above, for most part will be on mainly paved county, park, etc. types of roads, some greenway & off-road paths, types of riding.

Brands and sources of the following that are recommended:
1. fenders
2. front head light
3. rear light
4. helmet
5. luggage rack [front/rear]
6. gloves
7. shoes
8. packs [waterproof]
9. 2-3 bike car trunk rack for '92 Toyota Celica GT-S [has spoiler]
10. 'emergency' supplies - such as pump, patch kit, tools, etc.

On that last one, have contacted a few places, and am getting prices from $60-150. [Swagmon, Yakima, Saris...] - and see quite varied reviews, esp. for the Saris Bones, regarding how easy it is to tighten or amount of potential damage to the car's paint.

I have a 06 Tricross as well (Comp) 54inch (5'9'' 195 lbs)
Here is my info on the items:

1. fenders (I ended up buying #7006 Hybrid/Touring (45mm wide). From www.planetbike.com (http://www.planetbike.com) )
2. front head light (I bought the Cateye EL530 from www.Nashbar.com (http://www.Nashbar.com) they have good deals)
3. rear light (I bought some red blinking LED lights that you can change the battery around to make it on constant from www.roadid.com (http://www.roadid.com) )
4. helmet ( bought from the local bike shop)
5. luggage rack [front/rear] I installed a Trek Interchangeable and the Trek bag that goes with it. It snaps into place and has pull down panniers when you need them. I was referred to that style rack from my local bike shop)
6. gloves (any will do, but look for osme with good gel padding. These are best if you go try them on. Your second pair, if you like , could be ordered online when you know the style and size you prefer)
7. shoes (I am picky so I went to my local bike shop. I did buy mountain bike shoes to snap into my crankbrothers candy sl pedals)
8. packs [waterproof] I bought a waterproofing from a local camping store and sprayed the 3M waterproofing spray)

I took the stock seat post off and replaced with a FSA aluminum post

Hey! I just re-read your post. If you want my stock seat, I will send it to you pretty cheap. I would suggest crankbrothers pedals for the bike.

Yea, after I posted this follow-up to my original post that thought hit me too. But, don't know if it is acceptable to post the same thing twice in different parts of this forum, or should have a mod move it, but,,, don't see where to contact a mod that easily about that kind of situation...

Curious - should such a post as mine above be in the touring, as you suggested, or in maybe the General Cycling section? Seems maybe kind of overlaps... dunno...

Thanks much for the offer! However, after looking in the Specialized catalog and on the 'net about seats, I am thinking that will go w/ a decent seat - want to make sure that blood flows where it needs too... ;) Seriously tho', desire to have something comfortable for when I go on longer trips and such. Again, thanks for the offer - and for the reply above. Very helpful! Will check out those suggestions.
