Road Cycling - What to carry on your bike during a race???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am going to be doing a triathlon in a month and was wondering what people bring on their bikes in the way of repair kits and tools, pumps, extra tubes,etc... I will not have a support crew at all (this is just a local triathlon and my first ever). I wasn't sure if you take the chance and leave the tools behind and hope you can do the 40 k without getting a flat or do you bring equipment for repairs. If so how much do you bring and what should be included in my basic race kit?

I would say
1. Spare tube or patch kit
2. CO2 inflator with 2 fresh cartridges
3. Tire levers
The tube, I would get the lightest I could find for this purpose, is a few grams heavier, but it would be faster than a patch. If you wanted to take the risk, perhaps take one pre-glued patch. In that case, I would add an alcohol wipe to clean the area to promote good adhesion.
Seems to me the few ounces would be worth it considering the alternative could be abandoning the event due to a flat.

My brother uses Air-B inner tubes on his road bike, and rates them hightly. They are about the lightest, and most puncture resistant.
