Touring - Campsites along the Loire Valley

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone,
June is approaching and I'm getting excited about my upcoming tour in the Loire Valley. I bought the Bikeline Loire-Radweg (http://www.amazon.de/Bikeline-Radtourenbuch-Loire-Radweg/dp/385000063X/ref=sr_1_1/302-7295716-2789639?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177061281&sr=8-1) map & guide book, and the book doesn't show many campsites along the route. Can someone familiar with the route confirm this? Will finding a campsite be difficult?

The book you want is this one;
"Federation Francais de camping et de caravanning"
It gives all of the camping sites in France, even the small ones ones which are cheap but perfect for the traveler. It is cheaper to buy in France but as it is a substantial book it's not recommended that you carry it on tour.
That said, you shouldn't need it as along the valley of the Loire there are hundreds of camp sites and in June there should be no need to book. This is a popular route for cyclists in that it is gentle country for cyclists and is therefore well served by camp sites.
I shall be taking it myself sometime in July in order to get across to Roanne and then north up through Burgundy.
Good luck with the tour but be aware that this is forecast to be the hottest year on record.

Does that guide go East from Orleans? I've just come back from France, but was the other side, Sully-sur-Loire, Gien, Briare etc. and there are a few campsites around. I don't have personal experience of them (I was staying with in-laws) but I've seen the signs.
You could take a look on Mappy.fr, there's a link to show campsites:
See Mappy Link here (http://www40.mappy.com/sidZVKIrIfa51DMn21w/FGM?xsl=plan&out=2&csl=m2&fsl=m2&gsl=m2&msl=m2&wnm2=+&wcm2=&nom2=&tnm2=gien&pcm2=&tcm2=&a10m2=&xm2=&ym2=&csm2=4326&CAN=&USA=&scm2=&ccm2=250&com2=EU&x=37&y=7)
Edit: Link tidied up at the request of Onbike_1939 as it was huge.

Steve...can you use "shrunkurl" for your links and keep the thread to the correct size? Thanks.
There are so many damn campsites in the Loire valley - you'll have trouble NOT finding one, I dare say.
