Commuting - Help deciding between two CBs pedals

Does the platform help at all on the yellow pedal? I appreciate the wisdom of my fellow commuters on this!

No idea re. the platform, aside from the fact that it will add some weight. Also, if you ride in the rain be sure to wipe off the pedals or keep them coated in grease, since they will rust.

On both? Do all cb's rust? I have spd's and have had no issues.

How far are you riding? How stiff are your shoes?

I have eggbeaters on all my bikes, specifically for the four-sided entry. Putting a platform on it defeats the purpose IMO. I would recommend the standard eggbeaters to most commuters. The only exception might be if your shoes weren't stiff at all, or if you were doing REALLY long distances.

BTW, I have a mix of the pedals listed above, and the slightly higher-end SL pedals and nothing has rusted yet. If you're worried about rust, the SL's are about $70 on ebay.

Well, these are the cromoly models, the same as what I have. And yeah, after a winter of use, there are some rust spots showing up.

I run those two exact pedals on my non roadie bike and the difference is subtle. The candy's do lock you in a bit more (you feel a little less float) and pedaling w/o clipping in is a little easier, but umm, barely. I hate to say it, but I'd go with the ones you like the look of more.

The EB's get more attention and I ride in rain/mud etc and never had a problem w/rust.

Rust??? That's news to me. My Eggbeaters are 16 months old and no rust yet.

I had a buddy who had one of these fall apart after only 3 rides. Broke right before he was to start his first race of the season. I wouldn't recommend them just for that. I have the Candy SLs with the stainless "egg beaters" and I think they awesome. I like the extra platform for when I use them off road. When I use them to commute, I can't really see any advantage.

The Quattros can be had for around $70 from some places, too.

They're working well on my commuter (I haven't tried any other Eggbeaters yet).

I think the mainn difference in Quattros and the others is that the Quattros come with three bolt cleats. So if you want to use road shoes, go for the Quattros.

I have ALL Crank Bros pedals. Eggbeaters, Candies, Mallets, 5050s. I love them all, I love the customer service. I never notice any difference with the platform on the Candies over the Eggbeaters. The platform is handy for getting across an intersection from a red light without clipping in. While riding I never notice it.

I've got (stopping to count)

-4 pairs of Candies
-2 pairs of Mallets
-1 pair eggbeaters

I've grown quite fond of the Mallets for any kind of long distance riding. The Candies are good. I didn't like all the foot wiggle (float) I had with the eggs), but they're still good pedals.

I've lost some end caps and had a hoop bust. Each time Crank Bros customer service came through.
