Has anyone had any luck trying to link and upload workouts from their POLAR watch(s) using the Infrared (IR interface) that plugs into your USB port. I’ve about given up after updating and installing numerous sets of drivers and updates.

What worked for you? Any advice is appreciated.

There are two different IR dongles, which require different drivers. I've got the original white hourglass-shaped one with the red plastic window on the business end. It works fine, but when I got a software update, it assumed that I was using the new one and the IR didn't work any more. I had to go back through the installation and select the older unit I was using, which Polar stopped making in January 2006.

Mine can be weird sometimes. I have to plug in the infrared usb, open the polar program on my computer, line my watch up and hit the connect buttom, and wait for the weird connection sound. They can be tricky.

Before you install any new Polar software the infrared usb must be unpluged.

Is this a new watch? I have a 720i which worked flawlessly for a year then quit reading. Replacing the battery did the trick. The IR seems to quit working first, before battery indicators flag the low battery.
