Touring - UK to China - then NZ and OZ! Astonishing trip.

I stumbled onto this mad pair tonight. The second page I have linked covers a few of their tours, but the trip to China seems a bold and daring exploit to me.

Wow, wow, wow. Amazing adventures. I looked through the New Zealand tour page, and I was just stunned by the landscape.

Yes I was stunned, and I haven't even got to the NZ pages. It was the idea of cycling from London across Europe, Russia, Monglia and sleeping in Gers and such stuff. Of course they 'wussed out' by taking a train acorss the Gobi desert through ten hours of non-changing sand. I read a book once by Nicholas Crane (quite boring) about a trip to the centre of China starting in India. They cycled the Gobi desert which is if I recall correctly a really high and bitterly cold desert. China sounds like a really teriible place from an environemental viewpoint, though I've met people who have traveled by train in China and they said the same. Levels of pollution that are staggering by western standards. The pictures of the cyclists faces in parts of china (black like a coal miners face) tells all about the air pollution.

And look at their bikes, Thorn touring bikes with Rohloff hubs!

The trans asia route across the ex-soviet union and china seems to have become (relatively) popular in recent years. If you do a google search there are all sorts of people doing that epic trip. Amazing!

Brave people - the rest of us are what we Brits call 'pansies' by comparison.
