Does anyone have a good route from downtown Baltimore to downtown Annapolis?
I know the B&A trail runs from Glen Burnie to Severna Park... is 648 to the trail the best route out of Baltimore? And then hop on route 2 and then 450 into Annapolis? Or is there a better way?
Thanks.
The B&A actually runs all the way to just north of Annapolis; no need to get on Route 2. Go *all* the way to the end, then make a left onto the road, down the hill, make a right at the "T" onto 450, downhill some more, and shortly you will see the Severn River Bridge and the Naval Academy.
I'm hoping somebody pipes up with a good route to the trail from the Baltimore end, because I'm not sure about that. Did you know that the B&A Trail is linked at its northern end to the BWI Trail, a loop that runs around the airport? That would be closer to downtown Baltimore. 648 may still be the most direct route, but there may be better options in terms of traffic, road conditions, etc.

Maybe the new(ish) Gwynns Falls Trail would be an option, if you could get yourself to it? I've never been on it, but apparently it ends on Hanover Street in South Baltimore. From there you could head through Brooklyn and Curtis Bay, on Pennington and Patapsco Avenues, eventually becoming Fort Smallwood Road, right on Marley Station Road, cross Ritchie Highway into the Marley Station Mall parking lot, which (at the J.C. Penney) sits right next to the B&A Trail. The Brooklyn/Curtis Bay leg is kind of nasty, though -- lots of potholes and debris, heavy industrial traffic (not so much early on weekends, though), somewhat marginal neighborhoods.

Rt-2 south out of Baltimore (Hanover Street) over the Hanover Street Bridge, bear right on Potee Street. Follow to Brooklyn Park (Ritchie Highway). Make the r/t at the 7-11 where Potee, Hanover and Ritchie Highway meet onto Belle Grove Road. Follow Belle Grove road until it becomes Camp Meade Road. Follow Camp Meade to a l/t onto the BWI trail @ Andover Road. This puts you at the north end of BWI airport. The BWI trail connects to the B&A trail via the Sawmill Creek park trail. Just follow the signs on the trail.
The B&A will take you to the Annapolis, but at the end of the trail, just keep going. This road will take you to Rt-450. Turn right onto Rt-450 and follow it across the Naval Academy Bridge. Once over the bridge turn left at the 2nd light and this will take you straight down to City Dock.
The risky part of the ride is the Hanover Street part. Once you hit Belle Grove, most all the roads have shoulders. I used to live in Brooklyn Park near the Bingo World, so im a little familiar with the roads there.
