What do you think of that bike?

What may be wrong with it?

Does anyone else here ride a similar bike?

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help in advance.:D

jfk32: My wife rides a Mach 1.0 and I ride the Mach 2.0. We've been pleased with our K2's.

Nice bike, , is it sold as a complete bike, or you can change part here and there, If I would be buying the bike I, would be replacing the fork to a Carbon fiber fork, it will have a smother ride,

My FBS sells them although the shop owner has told me they don't sell very well simply because people aren't familiar with K2 as a bike company much less a road bike company. I have test ridden both the Mod and Mach frames with carbon forks and stays. They ride pretty nice and are a pretty good bikes for the price. I don't have any long ride experience with them but people I've talked to seem to like them for even long rides.

If you're buying the bike from a local dealer that is fitting you for it, then there's nothing to be concerned about. It's an entry-level road bike, and as such it's typical of the breed. Not something that you'd plan to upgrade, but rather to either replace or keep as a spare or beater if you get serious about the sport. Its component mix is perfectly adequate.

If it's your first road bike and you're buying via mail order, then you have a least a fair chance of getting a bike that will be uncomfortable and ill-fitting and end up making you hate to ride. In that situation, a low initial price ends up being not much of a bargain.

K2 is very good at MTB, but I'm not sure about its road bikes(I have not ridden any)... And I am not familiar with the geometry they use... Its better to get fitted to be sure...

489.00 seems a bit expensive for a sora equiped bike no? you probably could get a used road bike with 105 for about that much...

and the top tube is 43 cm? does that fit you? the frame is x-small, you want to take that into account....

otherwise I have not heard many people complain about k2 bikes.

I would love to agree with you if such an animal existed as a road bike that was less than $450. And I know I should go to the LBS, but quite frankly, I don't have the money for that. No matter what you say about how you should "build a relationship" with your LBS, or "support" your LBS, or that you will get fitted better at an LBS, its ALL A MOOT POINT when you consider that I don't have the money to get a bike there.

This K2 bike is at the absolute high end of my spending range, which means I wouldn't have the money for it for several months.

To add insult to injury, I can't go and test ride a few bikes at the LBS to get an idea of what is going to fit me for fear of insulting them by doing that when I know in fact I am not going to purchase from them. So I am left with few options.

Unfortunately, freedom of choice of a luxury reserved for the wealthy. Appreciate that disposable income that you have to use at the LBS.

For now I am just going to become a garage sale hunter. Roving from front yard to front yard searching... waiting... hiding in the bushes :D .

Oh yeah and I wasn't even looking at the size, I was just trying to get a price on the bike. I am not planning on buying anything now anyway. That would definitely NOT fit me. 6'0'' with something like a 90cm inseam (long appendages  ). Thanks for pointing that out though.

They have other sizes; the XS is just the one that's first on the list.

As to the price, I think it's reasonable for what's offered. In fact, the component mix may be a little better (aside from the Sora group) than competitive bikes from some other makers.

Your point about looking for a used bike is very well taken. However, it's even easier for an inexperienced cyclist to go wrong that way than buying mail order, IMO.

Why do you say you can't go to your LBS and find bikes like the K2? I know the LBS by me have a few bikes in that price range, it can't hurt to check out atleast.

look at the site bikesdirect.com. they have a bunch of bikes in that price range and have free shipping. also check out ebay.com.
plenty of brand new bikes for sale in your price range. i recently purchased 2 used bikes on ebay for great prices. this is how i did it, i only bid on bikes that were for sale locally that i could pick up. that way, when i went to get the bike, i could see exactly what i was buying, and didn't have to pay for shipping. picked up an almost brand new miyata 512 for $60.00.
