I mentioned this movie in my other post which made me start thinking about it.. Have you guys seen it? I coincidentally saw it shortly after I found out about track bikes/fixed gears and I thought it was cool that Kevin Bacon was riding a fixie.. The movie is fairly cheesy but still.. Are there any other fun movies to watch about biking or messengers or whatever?

I saw Quicksilver a few days ago. Bacon's fixed gear was only fixed gear when it was convenient... When he races the other guy and needs to go down steep hills at high speed, it magically starts to freewheel. :) The bike also does the cheesy derailer bike clicking sound.
Decent movie, nonetheless.

quicksilver, breaking away, american flyers are classics. everybody always forgets RAD... tons of amazing 80's bmx footage.
i also always rent this one from my local video store "cycling for success" with team 7-11. total worthless information but great 80's bikes and funny plugs for tropicana.
pee-wee's big adventure?
bmx bandits (nichole kidman)
rush it - bike messengers in love....

One of the best parts of Quicksilver, other than the trick riding scene in front of the mess. service and Bacon riding in his apartment, is trying to spot all of the different bikes he rides. There are all the fixed/coaster swaps, gearing changes. The biggie is the bike he rides in the apartment, one to one gear and very upright geometry.
No, the best part of Quicksilver is the cameo by Nelson Vails as a bike messenger in the opening 2 minutes of the film.

There's also a really good movie about messengers in NYC called "Pedal." It's on the Sundance channel and I had a friend tape it so we can watch it over and over and over. It's pretty good. You could also check out the http://www.bicyclefilmfestival.com/ as they have HELLA great movies in there...
what about the stunts being done on those fixed gear bikes? there was some crazy, crazy stuff going on in that one section.
on another note, I recently purchased BMX Bandits vhs tape. saw it when i was a kid. it was much better back then.......

haha!!! yeah!! kevin bacon riding a fixie!
"VOOOODOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"
the scene outside the messenger service i'm pretty sure has some old school BMX riders in it too. i remember seeing a lot of the same names from the RAD credits in the credits for quicksilver.

yeah.. and in that scene where he's coasting down the hill... did anyone see any brakes? i rented the movie a few weeks ago and kept rewinding to try to find brakes on the singlespeed parts, and was unable to. that hill looked like it'd be scary on a fix.. but even more so on a single without brakes!!!
on a similar note, i was up in nyc recently, and only saw one track bike. i did see lots of kids on singlespeeds coasting around though, without brakes!!! can someone explain this phenomenon to me?
Coaster brakes still exist.

i understand that grunk, but if they had coaster brakes, why were they skidding their feet like that to slow down?
I'm guessing acting? I don't know. I bet it would be fun to set up a single speed coaster brake bike.
