Hey everyone,
I took my first ride out of the state today as my dad and I headed in to NY State from Wilton where we had to drop my brother off. We headed from Wilton to New Canaan through a town in NY I can't remember to Pound Ridge, NY then to Ridgefield and back to Wilton. Originally, we were going to go for 50 by taking a 25ish mile route from Pound Ridge through Bedford to Ridgefield, but it started raining in Pound Ridge at 9:45 so we took a much shorter route and ended up sitting at the Wilton Starbucks after 30.97 miles. It was actually quite funny because there were 21 miles of climbing and 10 miles downhill; that shows what happens when you take different routes.
About the climbing. Almost everything to Ridgefield was a climb and there were a few especially tough hills, one that even made me go into my smallest ring up front for the first time on this bike! However, that was probably the most gratifying hill I've ridden because the thing was monstrously long and quite quite steep, at least by my standards. I really should have expected it because Connecticut and most NY riding is nothing but hills, which is why it's such good riding territory.
There were even a couple of hills I managed to push by my dad on, but those I really pumped hard just to humorously pass him. There were actually lots of riders out today since the rain wasn't supposed to start until 1 but started incredibly early. However, all the cyclists were friendly for the most part and I think a lot of them enjoyed seeing a young cyclist. I really love the cycling community because, except for a few of the really arrogant riders, they're all very friendly and supportive; just a great bunch of people by in large!
Well, that's basically my ride today, though there are actually a couple of firsts, good and bad, that occured today:
First ride out of the state.
First ride with riding glasses (Performance Athenas).
First time having to use the smallest ring up front.
Overall though it was an enjoyable day though it got cut short by the rain which is a little dissapointing, it was still cool to ride to a different state!
Shane
P.S. This would fit perfectly in a "Ride Reports" forum that I want to get made (hint hint ;) :p :D ).
