Classic & Vintage - Opinions on TEAM RALEIGH Record frame

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This frame is available - I'm trying to go over to see it. A 16 year old at church is entering a mini triathalon on a budget and I thought I'd build it up for him. I have some Cyclone 7000 parts and a 700 wheelset/freehwheel 6spd.
If I understand correctly, the TEAM Raleigh were reasonably good frames. Comments?]

LBS owner here had one from '79? that was all butted 531. I couldn't find much info in RR's catalogues on this frame. as most Records have lower grade tubing, but not this one. Was painted in the red/yellow team colors, and he ebay'd the bike (SR equipped) for around $750.
I had one . It rode good , nice frame. Mine went for $100 on ebay $750 must have been something special if it sold
Back in 1980, Joop Zoetemelk won the Tour de france on a Raleigh. To cash in on this, Raleigh issued their entry level Record model in the Raleigh TI team colors. This bicycle was a low end model with a hi-tensile frame. It's at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Raleigh Professional.
T-Mar, your info is what I found when trying to research my LBS's bike. Where did the 531 tubeset Record come from? It must have been rare to sell for what it did.
Edit - now with the link I can see that this does not match my LBS frame. The only Record decal it had was a smaller one on the front of the TT, it did not have the DT graphic.

The seller doesn't think this is a special frame. He did say it has the Knottingham England headbadge. He's supposed to email me if he finds any frame material decals. I'll probably stop by just in case.

It is not anything special. looks really cool and the paint is in good shape, but not a particularly interesting frame at all. btw: The drop outs are stamped.

The Team Raleigh record was first introduced in 1976. See www.sheldonbrown.com. I received one for Christmas in 1977.

Dude, not only is it not 1977 anymore, it's not 2007, either.
