Fifty Plus (50+) - Now begins the wait...

Well, my LeMond is available for pickup now; the sale ended yesterday and the LBS wasn't rolling any bikes out until after it ended. The best time to pick it up looks to be this Saturday -the shop closes at 7PM and by the time I made it down after work, it would be just about 7- when I'll actually have a chance to take it out on the road right there and return to the shop for any last little adjustments before I throw it on the car and bring it home. Hm, are carbon forks OK with a roof rack? This is gonna kill me. OTOH, I took my Kaitai our for a 10 mile spin on Friday and, gosh, I still love that bike.

How can you possibly wait till saturday.

Can't see the roof rack causing a problem as long as everything fits properly.

Nah, can't do that... I was just sick last Thursday when I went down to test ride this baby.

My guess is that the forks will be fine unless you drive into the garage with the bike still up there.

:lol: Believe it or not, I had that very same thought... I might have even dreamt about it night before last.
In a way, I hate to have to clamp down the fork lock on my brand new bike... I'd hate to scratch it up :(

As for pix... yep, just as soon as I pick it up. I'll have my camera with me, ready to go.

I was going to recomend a hitch rack where the bike sits on both wheels but 30 minutes ago someone crushed mine in the parking lot at lunch.

Thankfully, no bike was present. Now pardon me, I need to go get the leather suit and shotgun......

5 days of sitting and planning the rides instead of working- If I was your boss- I would insist you leave 4 hours early to get whatever you have that is bugging you- out of your system.

But then I am not your boss but you could show him this thread and point out that 350+ old- grumpy riders could play havoc on his route home if you do not get your bike tomorrow..

I'm not your boss either, but I agree with stapfam. All I can say is MY boss would let me have the time off. I have a great boss.

Well, my boss is pretty reasonable and VERY supportive of my riding. He even counted it on my last review! Safety is a HUGE part of our culture but we are a pretty large corporation so I don't know how far his slack goes. Besides, he just gave me a couple of days off with pay to go visit my sick sister. I don't know if I want to push things.

The new bike rack is already backordered for arrival mid may. I hope it will arrive before the 1st of June as I am already booked for a vacation and the bikes are going along too. If necessary, the road bike can be disassembled and carried in a bag and the Wife's bike will fit on the remains of the old rack.

This is the second hitch rack that has been cleaned off the back of my car. The last one was hit while I was on my way to pick up my wifes new bike (fortunately not after.)

Just so you know I'm not completely hijacking your thread SaiKaiTai, I think that you may be better off with a roof rack. I have heard that the crash damage to bikes is highest when on a hitch rack and I guess that I am living proof.

As long as I watch out for low overhangs and garage doors...

Try the standard saddle first- You may be lucky-But going by the rest of the spec on the bike- It may not be luck. From what I have heard- Some butts take some time to acclimatise to a brooks- So It may be a mistake for a few months.

The stock saddle is a Bontrager Race Lux which, coincidently, is what I have on my Kaitai.

Exactly, I have a Bontrager race saddle that was on the bike when I bought it. I am not thrilled with the way it looks and have tried a number of racing saddles only to find this stock saddle seems to fit my bum the best. Everytime I try to tweak something I am worse off than when I started. Now I just leave it all alone.
