Why would I as a bicycler want to learn defensive drivng? Wouldn't it be defensive riding?

The people on this board that have aided in solving all of the other worlds misconceptions such as gender biasedness and racism are now finding themselves at the forfront of the movement to prove that a person on a bicycle is actually "driving" it since they are "the driving force" behind the motion and that people actually "ride" in a car since all they are doing is operating it and the drivetrain of the car does the real work.

Personally, I just like to get on my bike and go, without having to think of all the ninny-nanny garbage.

Good point... in light of this though, I will choose to aid in working against those that want to call it driving, since I consider riding to be much more fun then driving - and darn it, riding my bike is fun!

I prefer to say "driving" in regards to using my bicycle in traffic because it reinforces in my mind, and to those that hear me say it, that I am a vehicle on par with the cars, no more or less important than they, and no more or less required to follow the same laws for my own safety and theirs. As someone here has said, "I am traffic." I think that it also helps me to remember to follow a car driver's mindset and habits as I negotiate in traffic. If that's ninny-nanny garbage, fine. I believe that language does have power, whether or not the speaker realizes it.

A Sunday ride in the park, now that is a different story...

It can still be fun, even if you are "driving"! Certainly more fun than a collision.

One member of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition consistently stresses that he rides in his car, but drives his bicycle. Makes sense to me . :)

Why would I as a bicycler want to learn defensive drivng? Wouldn't it be defensive riding?

I always though it strange that one "drove a car", and "rode a bicycle".

I mean shouldnt it be "drove a bicycle" and "rode a car"?

edit: whoah, One member of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition consistently stresses that he rides in his car, but drives his bicycle. Makes sense to me .
