Hi Everyone,
I am Ken and we live in Iowa City where I teach at the University of Iowa. Got interested in this forum when we started looking at bikes at our LBS and was a bit overwhelmed by the selection out there. There is something about being 50 years old and just not quite fitting in with the crowd in spandex, 32 speeds, and all the jargon that goes with it. I was originally interested in the Trek Lime because of the simplicity of it, but after riding it now I don't know - 3 speeds seemed a bit too narrow of range for me. I am thinking now of a compromise - a bike with the Nexus 8 or maybe the Sturmey-Archer 8-speed hub (see, I catch on to the tech part). Anyway, time now to get off the sofa and ride, right? Any suggestions out there on stock bikes for someone not into performance riding, but just casual commute to my office (about 2.5 miles) and weekend riding would be great. Oh, I don't like bumpy rides. Hey, I've got some pounds to pedal off. Under consideration are the Trek 400 Navigator or possibly Electra Townie 7. However, the LBS link is here if you want to browse and really be helpful with a link it would be great (they are good people, great service and I prefer to buy from them over the big guys:

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
