Mountain Biking - Could you guys help me please

I have a Trek 8000 with (indy sl)rock shox. I got into cars and now I am back into Crusin and downhill. Long story short, time for a new ride. I just picked up the july issue of mtn bike action and creamed my pants with the latest tech out there now. I want a full suspension bike (blur,liquid,most of the g fishers) but I cant blow the bank. Can I use my components from my old trek to get by with, lets say, blur frame and fox TALAS fork and 5th element air shock? and then from there add new wheels and more?
also I am 6'4" and weigh about 220 is this going to be a problem with this set up?
any imput would be awesome

Some of the components on the trek will be fine (handlebar, stem and wheels, crank and drive train. But some things to consider you may neeed a new bottom bracket as it might not fit and more than likely a new seatpost. Should be a pretty cheap way to do it :)

You said you want to do dh? I would watch those bikes as they are xc rigs...they aren't built to do a dh run with a guy your size. Also the review of the epic I read mentioned it may not be appropriate for larger riders. But that was the prototype so things may have changed. :)

thanks for the reply, when I say down hill I mean pretty easy DH 2-3 foot drops at the most. Do you have any other cool frame suggestions

The bikes you're describing still arent designed to handle 2-3 foot drops consistently at your weight. If you're going to ride DH, you may just want to get a little bit beefier hardtail and go it that way, unless you want to build a real DH bike.
Personally, i think if you can afford a bike like a Blur, it'd be a shame to equip it with a bunch of old used parts. A really nice used Full Suspension bike could be purchased for the same price...and youd not destroy it....but hey........its your money.

I go with Burly on this. I would look at something beefier to put together. It won't pedal as well but will be able to handle the drops you are describing. :) As for what to get...Look at anything with a 4 bar. A stinky can support your weight. Any of the Norco's can handle what you want to throw at it. I believe the Norco Drop is adjustable as well.

You might want to check out Ebay. I have seen a lot of Surly frame(like BurlySurly's) for sale for very reasonable prices. I almost bought one but got a better deal on the frame I have now.
