Touring - Have you toured on a crosscheck?

Just looking for experiences of people that rode this bike on longer (4day and up) rides. I have the chance to scoop one up for around town riding but also wondering if anyone has experience riding long distances with one as I'd like to start touring myself.

I was considering one a while back and found a lot of happy people who have done longer tours w/ them. I hear the reason started making the LHT was because many happy people were using the Crosscheck for touring. Unless you netted no results, try doing a search. There has been many posts about the crosscheck in the past.

I've done six days on my Cross-Check (with an internally geared hub), and it worked great. I'm leaving for a few weeks to Michigan's UP around May 5th and have no worries about it. Note: its fork doesn't have mount points for a front rack. I get by just fine, however, with just rear panniers and a handlebar bag, but I don't do any cooking on tour (I do camp each night, though).

How many pounds people are carrying, and is its steering noticably affected?

You might also want to consider the Soma Doublecross. Better tubing and fork rack eyelets for about the same price.

I've done a multi-day on my 49cm Soma Double Cross. Handling was great with my 160 lbs. plus 35 lbs. of gear in two small rear panniers and a handlebar bag. I've carried more back and forth from the grocery store but the handling starts to get a hair squirmy. I suspect the Cross Check might be a little better for carrying another five or ten pounds. I've recently been considering a Jamis Aurora as a full fendered option for bigger grocery trips, longer tours, and winter commuting. I'd like to have a 50+ lb. option.

I did two weeks of loaded touring in Japan last summer on my cross check. I had rear panniers and a handlebar bag. I thought that it handled great, but I have never ridden a true touring bike loaded, so I can't make the comparison. Since you already have the bike, go for it!
