Too damn far to drive. :p

This guy (who I will get back to) just commented on George's blog about this event in LA. (http://nowhip.blogspot.com/2007/02/feel-my-legs-im-racer-2007.html) Oh, so I click on the blog and see that this guy has done a couple of the events that I have and I start thinking...hmmm...I wonder if he's the guy that I rode with and talked to on Del Dios Hwy during the 200k brevet in January, so I left him a comment and sure enough...he left me a comment today on my blog and it was him. Small world. :)

I can roll out my door and do 4000 ft of climbing in about 12 miles...

Those guys must not get up to the San Gabriels much

that looks like a blast! i would like to know how long the 20% and 18% grade go for. overall it sounds pretty fun and a decent challenge. 7200 ft over 42+ miles really isnt that bad. unless the climb starts @ mile 35. then thing could get sketchy.

I lived in Oregon (Orygun) for a year long ago.
Got all the rain rides I need for a lifetime.

Nothing on that course is as steep as Decker BTW.

Are you wondering if we want to do this ride or organize one here on roads that match it in terms of grade and distance? If the later, I agree with others, we've got hills we can (and do) go climb right out our back doors. But those are some tough riders climbing in that rain. I'm with Vance, I don't do rain. I melt in it. :D

Well...the whole post was a bit toungue-in-cheek. :D

But, I have found that some of our harder rides do about 1,000ft per 10-miles or more. (I call them point-one rides, as in ".1" A point-two (.2) ride would be 2,000ft per 10-miles, which I have not seen so far.) A few others have come close at 1,200-1,300ft per 10-miles. Even the Baldy ride from Rte 39/GRR was only a .1 (~6,000ft per 60-miles) after the return trip. So I saw this one, which is doing about 1,500 ft. per 10-miles.

Seems like it would be hard as well. Loved watching everyone walking up. Great stuff.

Omg, yeah I saw that over there also. Painful. We could do create some pain for ourselves by crisscrossing the Santa Monica Mountains using Las Flores, Tuna Canyon, Fernwood, Stunt Road & Piuma.

61 miles, 10,200 feet. Ouch!
