It looks like half a step over something you would get at Wal-mart, do yourself a favor and go to a respectable bike shop and test ride one, you'll never regret it.

I was looking at the bike as an entry level, with hopes in the future of upgrading as I go along. What do you think? What would you recommend?

Yeah, but you have to agree that for the money a Spec Hardrock or Giant Ricon are better bikes

Do you think this bike is worth $50 more than the first link I posted ?

Just get like a Specialized or Giant, you dont know what the quality of the frame is.

The first thing i'd do if i had that bike is: set it on fire and throw it over a cliff.

Wanna go mountain biking? Quit looking at toys and start looking at mountain bikes. Nice hardtails from REAL bikeshops can be had for that price. Go to your local shop and have a look, you'll see.

It's a box of mostly halfway-decent parts and a frame of unknown quality with no evident warranty. One of the biggest and most important differences between *mart bikes and bike shop bikes is professional assembly and adjustment. This bike comes with neither, and if the buyer has no experience and no bike tools the result could be *worse* than a *mart bike.

And it only comes in two sizes.

It's a craps shoot, and I think the odds are probably stacked against you. Even more so if you actually plan to try to do serious technical off-road riding on the bike, which will put you at the mercy of light-duty parts, unknown wheels and frame, and the assembly skills of... who?

And if you're not planning such use, then you really don't need a FS bike anyway, and would do better buying a good hardtail from a bike shop for the same money.

This guy has been selling these on ebay for a few months. He started with no reserve and sold them dirt cheap, then started asking 'real' money. I emailed him a question about top tube length and he said it is 32 inches. Anyone who knows anything about bikes knows this figure is not even in the ball park. I figure he's some guy trying to cash in on the mouintain bike thing and selling flashy looking bikes. Here's something on ebay to check put. THis guy has a few every week lately in different sizes and some go under $200.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3611817841&category=27948

I have seen that bike(or at least an exact replica)...

I have noticed something odd about it.. Since it was suppose to be new and there was something wrong with the frame... This explains it...

Wow and I only thought you could only have coda parts on Cannondales bike 1 had coda cranks on it. Fully knowing the history of coda parts, I would stay away from it.

stx front derailleur... weren't they replaced by deore? reason for the cheap price probably is because the bikes are assembled with NOS parts... like others have stated, basically it's a gamble on the frame, though you know the components level.

Here are a couple of bikes I've found on eBay that I'd recommend for your budget. They're all hardtails. I'd stay away from a full suspension unless you want to spend over $1,000.00.

This is a cool little bike, not what I'd suggest for a newbie, but definately a good deal:

This seems like a very decent bike for the price:
It's in FL too. It's a bit on the big side. What is your inseam?

A little past your budget, but a great bike. "Buy it now" price is a good deal!:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3611662001&category=27947

a bit beat up, but good parts, however, I'd NOT get this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3611628367&category=27948

Another Haro:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3612368231&category=27947

That's it for now. I'd just keep checking the "Buy it Now prices" and find decent bikes within your budget.

A lot of these are new bikes that are leftovers from last year or two.

if you want it get it, strip the good parts, and go BACK to ebay and get a decent frame and the rest of you'r components. I just bought this one

Can definately be done, but the trick is to find a frame that is compatible with the components.
