97 Miles with 7,980 Feet of Climbing
Rain Cancels

This Century is not recommended for first time century riders ... it's got nearly 8,000 Feet of Climbing.

This route was designed by Greg Kibble and ridden by Greg and Steve Pohle on Saturday, 4/24/07. Thanks to Greg for doing this and sharing their good work for us.

Bruce Taylor will be leading this Century. Let him know if you are coming by sending an e-mail to Bruce at bwtaylor2@charter.net If there isn't enough interest in this ride, Bruce may cancel it by announcing the cancellation on this e-mail list on Friday but he will lead it with only a few riders.

The Route Sheet is at

http://www.caltriplecrown.com/centuries/EastForkMountBaldy.xls

The route travels on the great East and West Roads in Fullerton, climbs Turnbull Canyon, San Gabriel Canyon Road, East Fork Road by Camp Williams, then up Glendora Ridge Road to Mount Baldy. This bypasses the construction on Glendora Mountain Road. The route does not include the climb up West Fork to the Dam. Greg designed a very direct route back on Mountain Ave. which makes the ending very easy to navigate.

This ride will start and finish at:
Burger King
2711 S. Diamond Bar
Diamond Bar, Ca 91765
TBM 679 H5
From the I-5 and 57 Interchange,
Take the 57 NORTH exit towards POMONA - go 13.7 mi Take the DIAMOND BAR BLVD exit - go 0.2 mi Turn on S DIAMOND BAR BLVD - go 1.0 mi Make a U-turn at FOUNTAIN SPRINGS RD onto S DIAMOND BAR BLVD - go < 0.1 mi Arrive at 2711 S DIAMOND BAR BLVD, DIAMOND BAR

We will start at 7:30 A.M. sharp so you should arrive by 7:15 A.M.

In Baldy Village they stop at the Lodge in town[lots of bikes parked in front] on the right hand side. I usually go to the trout farm for a break before trying the lifts one more time, ugh.

It does? Really? You're kidding, right? Baldy? Well, I've never been there, so I guess I should check it out before I go so I know what I'm getting into... :p

Old La Honda will be a piece of cake compared to that

One more time? How many repeats do you do up there stud? I've only been up to Baldy Village once and I did not go to the lifts. I didn't have my "climbing" gears and everyone told me that I would not be happy trying to get up there.

Too many rides...:oI've been to the lifts most everytime I've been to Baldy, you gotta go to the top. Right? It's hard as hell though. The sign at the top on the way down says Caution!!! 14%. I think it's harder than Decker, thank goodness for the turnouts.

Well, the at least four times (I think more actually) that you rode up there with me (twice just the two of us and with others on other rides) last year, we stopped at the trout pond and you told me to skip the lifts. So, I'm surprised you want to climb up there. I would like to accompany when you do.

I hope to go to the top on Saturday but with my time constraints I'm not sure the Ski Lift Option adds 4.6 Miles and 2,013 Feet of Climbing for an Average Gradient of 8.3% with some sections of over 18%!! I would already have 7500ft+ of climbing in 66.4 miles and to add another 2k in 4.6 miles! All's I gotta say is OUch! If I swap my mtn 11/32 cassette to my roadie (it fits, I've tried it) it would me a piece of cake. But that would be cheating, gravity at least.

M.E. are you going to be joining me or VB?

Jon, I would love to join, but I've already organized a ride (the Santa Barbara Century) this Saturday (which is a great ride with great guys, so I'm not complaining - and you and Bob are invited - I just wish I could clone myself and go on both rides!). Besides, you are WAY, WAY, WAY out of my league. ;) But I hope to get up there the following weekend. I'll be in town and itching to climb (so I can suffer). If we don't do the Crystal Lake-Red Box-Grassy Hollow-Kitchen Sink ride, perhaps I can sweet talk Bob into heading back up there (and perhaps you can do repeats on the Baldy ski lifts that day as you wait for me to climb up to the village...:p)

Oh I forgot about your ride, I thought about doing it but it is too far for me to go this weekend. I can do Baldy and be home by 2.
If you ride a bike you're in my league, and you're already a 07 Triple Crown Winner! You still have plenty of time to volunteer for one and ride two more and get in the 1000 mile Gold Glub. You can do it. I still have two more doubles to do.

Very funny, I wish I could wait for you... but I have to get home the street lights come on:roflmao:

 Now you got it. ;) Hey, I have no shame carrying my HID up that hill if I have to. Besides, Bob will wait for me. He doesn't want to hear me ***** later. :p

See, I knew you were a climber! I better watch it when you come up to the Bay Area, climbing like a tour alps rider.

You're cracking me up, Ron. Just because I climb doesn't mean I'm a climber. I just happen to love Baldy and am willing to ride up there.

Ya know, you mentioned before how much alike we are ... I always say the same thing ... I love the climbs, but I am by now means a hill climber. I am grateful to my buddies who don't mind waiting for me at the top of the hill, and also for circling back for me (just to make sure I don't go down the 10 mile detour, only to do 10 more climbing miles than anyone else).

I was glad I caught up to you on GRR today. You were the only familiar face I saw today. Sorry I couldn't go up to the lifts with you but I had time constraints and I was already late getting home. Talk to you soon.

JonWell, M.E. I went up to the lifts and I'm sure not going to say "piece of cake" this time ugh. That is the steepest climb of that length that I know of, 4 1/2 miles of suffering, Awesome. Great to see you Jon. Good luck next week at B.A. Now that should be a "piece of cake" for you.
