i posted this on the randon usergroup as well but thought i'd ask you guys too. anyway, i have those blingy honjo fenders on my randonneuring bike and was wondering how to transport it without removing the front fender. i have a honda civic 4-door so i can't really put it in the back like i do with my other bikes. can you put a fendered bike on a roof rack without removing the fender? just eyeballing it it doesn't look like you can. do i just have to get a trunk mounted rack?

any ideas?

thanks!

you can - depending on how much coverage you want, and if you run a mud flap.

as much as i hate driving my bike anywhere when i set up my honjos i was careful to make sure i could car top it easliy.

when i installed the fenders i set the bike on the ground sitting on the front fork and the rear wheel. i positioned the fender to just touch the ground, knowing that this line would work with the tray on my roof rack. you can also get a mount that allows you to drive with the bike fully upright with both wheels installed.

i could have set the fender another 1.5" lower... but i have the fender drilled for a mud flap and i use that to add extra coverage. the coverage without the mud flap is ok... (http://lh4.google.com/image/mike.beganyi/RVibghFtABI/AAAAAAAABEc/u2eNaNUx31Y/IMG_2593.JPG?imgmax=720)

I've got a 4 door civic with a Yakima roof rack, I can't put a fendered bike on the fork mount bike tray (the one where you take the front wheel off) but Yakima (and probably a few other companies) makes a bicycle tray that lets you put the bike on with both wheels on the rack. This tray has an arm that grabs the downtube to hold the bike in place.

Here's what Yakima has to offer:

I picked up a Yakima bike tray that was being discontinued from REI for a reasonable price, even out of date Yakima stuff is awfully good.
