Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Addicted...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello everyone. My name is Kurt and I'm an addict. I bought a Pista two days ago. I know it's not very original: but I'm lazy. I really like the "olive" color, and they had it in my size so I just couldn't resist. I replaced the pedals with some Primo Meat Tenderizers and that's all I've done to it so far. Since I got this thing, I've really only stopped riding to eat and go to work. In fact, I left work early to ride more. Sleep is a thing of the past. I've been stoked about new bikes before, but this is different. I've been riding all over town with no goal or destination. I practiced trackstands in the garage while it was raining. I can't think of anything else. It's going to get worse isn't it?

say good bye to all of your money/free time.
Even when I try to sleep, all I dream about is riding.

it's actually "celeste" green.
those platform pedals will be nice until they actually live up their name and tenderize your lower leg sometime.

Pista is not "celeste", it's "gang green".
Nice color.
I have a Celeste Bianchi too. There's no mistaking that color for anything!!!
Do they actually call the color "Gang Green"? I love that band.

Everyday I wake up my bike is outside my bedroom door. I say "good morning" to it each morning... then I pat the seat. Anyone else do weird things like this? It's a Langster btw... I friggin love it.

both mine and my girls bikes are on a rack in the bedroom. i just stare untill i fall asleep.
at my bike, not my girlfriend of course.
when i was building up current bike i would come home drunk/stoned and just stare at it.
when i come home stoned/drunk i stare at my current bike.
because i am at school more than having a life i spend obscene amounts of time online talking about bikes, looking at bikes and wishing i didnt come off like a stupid poser because i cant find time to ride.
Bikejunkies be proud!

you know its bad when you start wanting everyother bike and make a list of all of the parts and frames you want and calculate it out at work and school

+1 (except I'm often traveling, not at school)
I got a Pista a year and a half ago for the same reason as you, and I've had the same experience. Have fun checking craigslist and ebay every day for components you want.

Just wait 'til you start checking in hopes of finding really good deals on stuff you don't need but buy anyway because it's 'too good to pass up.'

I apparently told my girlfriend "I love my bike" in my sleep one night. She was not so pleased with me....

I sleep next to my bikes so when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can caress them oh so gently.

It is an addiction. Just embrace and enjoy it, and come to peace with the fact that you will boggle the minds of non-cyclists.

I still remember thinking $300 was a lot of money for a bike...
I was just thinking back about my old Schwinn 10-speed. Put around $400 into that bike and thought I was crazy. Now I have over $2100 in bikes sitting in my room, and have no regrets.
before i spent as much as i do now, more when i was just getting into bikes and spending maybe 100 bucks a month, my old roommate said i spend more money on my bike then people spend on their cars. i don't know if that's really true though
Nah, most bikes don't come with a $17,000 price tag.

i had to leave my bike at work one night(in a safe place). as i was leaving, i turned around and said, "goodnight bike, be safe," and walked away. Little did I know my manager was staring at me, none the less, i greet my bike each morning, wish it safe ride during the day, and tell it goodnight.
^^^ i just imagined the manager staring at you and that made me crack up

More like heroin, buddy. Crack is such a short fascination. With heroin, you'll die doing it and it's a way more powerful/peaceful drug. I'd like to think I'll die fixin'.

You know it is REALLY bad when you are in your room and you start singing, "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" by Cold Blood to your bike.
Oh god help me :(.
It's more the riding I'm addicted to, than the bike. I mean the bike is nice and all, but being on a fix for the first time, for me, feels like getting my first BMX bike when I was a kid. All I want to do is ride. Everywhere. Bad weather or not. I've been finding myself opting to take the bike over the car pretty much any time I have gone anywhere this week, and this is not a very pleasant city to ride in. I just wish I could still commute to work...

o that is soo not true. we dont have to pay 200 month on car insurance/gas/or high prices for small pieces to make the car go zoom. drivers put so much $ into the car and air. we put out to get back

Yeah, but I did see one yesterday for over $9,000.
What it would be like to have that much money....
I still remember thinking $300 was a lot of money for a bike...
I remember thinking "You're crazy dude" when a mate in college spent more on a new stem than my whole crappy bike cost. Now he's racing in Europe and it all makes a whole lot more sense to me. My cheap fixie build is turning into a $1k project, which is more than I paid for my mountain bike.

Riding down the street at night, seeing nothing but greenlights in front of me, realizing there is nothing but reds behind, and having the whole road to myself, that happened tonight, as it has in the past, and i cant wait for it to happen again.

As should be. Never regret what you have/saved/converted/love.Just regret not giving them each the attention you know they deserve.

Sitting, constantly clicking for a random bike on velospace, hoping to come across something you have never seen before. Checking ebay every day for that once in a lifetime deal. You convince your friends to get a bike, just so you can help them shop around and lay down your knowledge. Dreaming up dream bikes. Not caring that it's catching on because you're just happy that others are enjoying one of the finest things in life. Realizing "I should be riding my bike right now" while sitting through another algebra class. Drawing bikes in algebra class. Annoying friends, because, it's just all you care about anymore. hahaha
Man it's the best.
Spreading the addiction.
My mate's girlfriend found an old girl's bike under her house and she's so excited about cleaning it up and getting it smooth. She's been around us talking and building bikes constantly and she just ended up catching the fever. We now have nine bikes under our house.

What are you, John Wayne "The Bike-Killing Clown" Gacey?
Haha, two of us ride, so the collection is split. Only five of them are mine (six when the fixie's finished) and I only ride two of them regularly.
