Time to get busy, I mean get riding.

Someone appears to have a fetish for Pillsbury dough boys and Seagrams Gin :D

It took me some time to find the Seagrams. Great observation!

I'm still trying to figure out what that is sitting on the captain's saddle....

Congrats. Having a spouse that will buy toys for you always brings to mind a great song by Jimmy Buffett on his album Hot Water called "Smart Woman (in a real short skirt)" that starts off with this memorable line: 'So I told her, ooh...you got money of your own? Well, that gives me the urge to merge..'

I was going to comment on that too but I couldn't (still can't) decide if it's a Snickers candy bar or not.

Under extreme magnification, I ran out of pixels. I guess an energy bar of some kind.

Nice bike and nice wife.
I'd do that but my DH would be a bit miffed that I bought it without him.

Have loads of fun!

Sorry if I left you all hanging. It is a snickers bar that is sitting on my saddle. That is what was in the large wrapped box as subtrefuge for the whole surprise.

Nice bike. We also have a Burley (Duet). However it doesn't look as nice as yours.

When you get to the point that you can smooch while flying down a hill at 40mph, post some pics.

Ah, yes.
The word RUMBA on the top tube gives it away! LOL!
Thanks!

Yes it is a Rumba. My lovely wife had troubles deciding between that and a Paso Doble. The HUGE differerence in price helped her.

Firstly, congrats (on the bike, and the wife who gives awesome presents)!

I offered my stoker the 'opportunity' to wear the HRM strap the other day so that I could see 'when she was working too hard and needed a break'. She saw through my clever ruse though. She's way smarter than I am.

Thanks everybody!

A quick update. We took the tandem out for a 24 miler Saturday afternoon and got up to 27.9 mph on the home stretch (iwth a tail wind)

Sunday morning we did 51.9 miles. Our max was 25mph but we averaged 19.5 mph. I have to say I was cooked when we got done. My wife was ready to do it again (except that her rump hurt).

do you think a shock post would help?

btw that's a great present, great wife, etc etc.

my fiancee wears an HRM (and the watch) and calls out numbers every now and then. I keep telling her to go easier.

She (nor I) liked the telescoping shock post (cheap kalloy) so just got a thudbuster. Haven't tried it yet but based on other tandem stokers' inputs, we went with that.

A different seatpost is on my list of things to try.
I think the biggest problem is that she has never been a distance cyclist. I think her sit bones and muscles need to get used to riding. A shock absorbing seat post should help keep me out of trouble for the missed "bump" calls.

Is there an advantage to having bullbars for the stroker as opposed to drops?

Yes, if:

1. You are a stoker and you happen to like them...
2. You are a tandem producer who saves a few bucks by eliminating the cost and labor associated with installing stoker rests on drop bars.

Drops vs.bullhorns (cowhorns???)? Personal preference.
Drops: more hand positions (don't 'have to have' stoker handrests, but my stoker likes the round ones).
Cowhorns: less hand positions, bit lighter.
Cheap cowhorns: Take a set of old drop bars and cut off the un-desired drop part of the bar, flip it over and install; voila: cowhorns!

Drop&Chop in the fixie world IIRC. I was just curious because I don't ride tandems, but It looks like it could be a good time.

Yo, Mike!
Have you and the Ms. ridden this yet?

Love it? Details!

On the drops, couldn't you just rotate them so the drops aren't dropped?

Hey, I'd marry that woman if I were you!

Sweet rig, sweet stoker, Snickers, Seagrams...what else could you possibly want?
