Front Deraileur adjust?

I am the 86 year old dad "write" mentions (Birthday tomorrow 27th)Hi Karen. We both have our Sun Tadpoles and getting familiar with them now. fortunately we have a dealer in town just a few blocks away. We both seem to have the same problem but have not taken them back to the dealer yet as it is a bit difficult transporting them. I do not know the nomenclature very well so excuse my ignorance. Both of our Bents have the same problem....we can not move the left side deraileur control for the three geared front unit on the crank,very far even with a tremendous strain. I read on the net hear the othere day of someone saying theirs did that because the dealer had asjusted the main shaft for length plus shortened the chain toi match but did not adjust the deraileur. Of course our dealer is only familiar with DF's and I wonder if there is something he should know about adjusting the deraileur itself. HELP

Derailleur adjustment is the same no matter what kind of bike it's on. Make sure there's nothing to prevent the cable from moving freely and adjust per the book.

If the bike shop is only a few blocks away the transport would be "ride it there?'' Or at least that would be my answer if you can not figure out how to adjust with the fine help these others have given. ... ... ... ... ... ....peace

Perhaps when they adjusted the front tube back and then shortened the chain they didn't have the rear derailler set to put the chain on the largest rear sprocket. If you then have the rear set to the "Granny" position and are trying to shift to a larger front sprocket there just isn't enough chain left to allow it. The feeling would be the shifter can't move but the real problem is the tight chain won't allow it.
