Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Just wandering the city on a bike is a good time

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Tuesday night started out to be a short one hour 15-16 mile ride and turned into a 3 hr 24 min 35 sec 52.2 mile wandering through the southside of Jacksonville. At the 40 mile mark, a cop pulled up next to me at a stop light and to see how far I had ridden since he had seen me three different times and he had just taken up cycling. I only stopped cause my light battery was running out of juice and I was getting the dreaded blinking warning light. I left the house at 10:30 pm and pulled into the garage at 1:55 am. Finally went to bed at 3 am after a quick snack and a shower.
Man do I love that feeling that you think you can do 100 miles when you were not trying to. I could have easily done another 15, but figured I better call it a night since I had to get up at 7 to go to work and I was running out of battery time. I have only drained my battery one time before and I like the feeling. Will need to do that more often. :D
That is awesome! I remember I did 60 miles last December doing something similar, went for a ride then hooked onto a group ride to see all the decorations in Brooklyn. Came home and there was 60 miles, couldn't believe it!

There IS a solution to the light battery time running out, keep a spare set handy, then when you run low on juice, just swap the batteries for fresh ones, my light uses AAAs (rechargable) and I keep a spare set in an old 35mm film can -- I'd hate to end a ride just because a stupid battery ran out:rolleyes: Mind you, I rarely ride much after dark anyway.....
My light kit is a Blackburn X3 and should have had enough for at least 4.5 hrs, but I was running in high for about 45 minutes and did not recognize it, as I usually ride in the 70% mode. I do 95% of my riding at night and this is a great light and really serves me well. I might need to carry a small emergency light in my seat pack.
Wow. Nice mileage for a "cruise" Is that on your new Big Boy Bike? How is that new riding position working out for you? I'm considering an upgrade someday.

Sorry, did not see this question, yes it was on my big boy bike :D. Loving it, have not had any lower back issues at all. I was stretching and working my mid section for the last couple of months, so the transition was quite easy. It also helped when I changed my fork on the hybrid as it stretched me out more than the old setup.

That's what my wife said too.
