Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Clydes on 29s?

Any other Clydes riding a 29? Just got a new Cannondale Lefty and am planning on taking it on a cross-state tour. Wonder how the 29s feel over long distance. I just got it a week agao and it seems smoother than my old MB.

I ride a GF X-Caliber and a Redline Monocog 29er. I think my 29ers feel much better than my 26ers ever did. They soak up trail chatter better and roll over obstacles much easier. My longest ride to date is only about 30 miles(of all singletrack; I ride my road bike for road rides) and I felt better at the end of it than when I road my 26er on the same route. It seems, to me at least, that it takes less effort to ride the 29ers than it did the 26ers, but maybe it's just the new bike placebo effect. At any rate the bigger tires feel better to me and I much more confident on the trail with them.

It's more a function of tires than anything else. I'm assuming your cross-state ride will be almost entirely on pavement, and in that case you'll suffer on knobbies just as you would with mountain bike. Road tires will help a lot. I've done the same 25-mile commute three or four times a week for almost 30 years, on every bike I've owned using tires from 20mm slicks to 2.4-inch knobbies, and the only thing that makes a consistent difference in speed is the tires.

I have a Salsa EL M that I have had for a while. I like it so much that I got rid of my cross bike. As I ride anywhere from 15 - 30 miles it is a plesant ride most days and does not wear me out. If I'm doing alot of road work, I will switch to a cross tire generally.
