Does anyone know of any interesting routes from Milwaukee to Madison? We're heading out tomorrow and thinking of taking Glacial Drumlin State Trail from Waukesha to Sullivan, where we'll camp for the night - yeah, we're taking it slow and steady and not starting out until 6pm-ish.

Last time we took the highway that parallels the GDST all the way to Stoughton, but it would be nice to switch it up. We don't care if we end up in Madison or Stoughton.

If you know of a good route, please let me know! Thanks in advance.

I like this to navigate the roads of Wisconsin.

County Hwy B in Jeff. Co. was a nice ride last time I rode it a number of years ago. Just south of 94.

The MS 150 bike tour goes from Waukesha to Whitewater then ends up in Madison. Maybe they post their route online?

I would like to ride from Milwaukee to Madison sometime this year on the Glacial Trail, I will have to ride my trusted Specialized mtn bike for this ride, few years back I rode from St. Louis MO to Kansas City MO on the Katty Trail on the same bike :) it was a long ride but with enough bed and breakfast and bike shops right on the trail it was fun. I loved it.

There must be a way. About 2 summers ago I was stopped at a rest stop outside Sullivan while on my motorcycle and got to talking to a guy who was pedaling back to Madison from Milwaukee. It was about 3 in the afternoon, and he wasn't too worried about getting home - he said he had a nice trip out the day before on the trail from Madison. Seeing him made me feel like others must have felt when they found out I'd ridden my motorcycle "all that way", and was one of the events that inspired me to buy a bicycle.

Local ex-pro Tom Schueler used to lead a Milw-Mad-Milw ride every spring from his house - 150 miles so it must be do-able.

He still does, it's set for May 16. If you're interested, here's a link with more info: http://www.wicycling.org/Forum/news/2007news/news.htm#rideOfSilence

I missed that, thanks for the link. I guarantee that the other 140 miles won't be ridden at 12 mph! :p

I was out around the Johnson Creek area yesterday and I checked out some of the roads. Seems that it's either highway or farm roads. Tough choices. Hwy B wasn't bad heading west out of Johnson Creek, it's smooth with a small shoulder on the west bound side. Saw two guys hammering the tail wind there yesterday. Although I've never ridden that part of the Glacial Drumlin trail, it looks pretty slow and even manure laden farm roads would be faster. :D
