Introductions - Hi from a noobie

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

After having my mt. bike in mothballs for many months and myself in horrible shape, I have begun again to ride. I have lost 70 pounds and can now bicycle for 25 miles without passing out or dying half way up a small hill. I have been cycling about 30-50 miles a week for the last three months or so.

So, why am I here? I've decided to start looking at getting a road bike since riding 20+ miles on a mt. bike is probably a waste of effort. I want to get as much information as possible about selecting the right road bike with the best features that I can afford. I will post something on the road bike board about this. I am also here because I believe I will enjoy discussing local rides, and future upgrades on my soon-to-own bicycle.

Many welcomes! You'll find some great information here regarding your quest for a road machine. You'll like it much more on the road with a road bike. I used to ride my older mountain bike on the road to stay in shape. However, the experience of a real road bike (longer distances, more speed, etc) is too sweet for words. :D

hsjb,

If you are looking for local routes, rides, and general support, I suggest you consider joining Western Wheelers Bike Club. Also, The Bicycle Outfitter at Loyola Corner has rides leading from the back of the store every Sunday morning.
