I picked up a pretty cool 3T stem this evening, and I am basicly trying to find out what the clamp diameter is (as my bars are too skinny and I might try to find a shim kit..).

It says forged, it is 115mm long, it has sort of a scalloped top part and then the coolest feature is that there is a hinge on the front that allows you to open it up completely to remove bars or whatever without having to slide them out. there is a plastic piece that goes over the hinge with a 3T logo.. Anyone seen one of these? I didn't know what it was until I picked it up and I am pretty pleased.

3t's were traditionally 26's..NOT 31's..you do you HAVE the stem..so.. are your bars road bars ?is the stem a quill or threadless ?? It sounds like it's a quill. Too many if's though, still too iffy. Shims are not a great idea for quills, quills can creak anyway.I imagine shims are fine for threadless, many threadless stems are available that include shims. Not enough to go on.

Scalloped sides, hinge, sounds like a 3T 2002 Evolution. Its a road stem. 26mm diameter if it is that stem.

Hehe, sorry. Problem is (was) that when I posted I had just gotten back with the stem, didn't know anything about it, and I also don't know anything about the sizes of the bike I am trying to use it with which is an old Raleigh Sports (read weird sized everything).

I found some normal bars so now I don't care anyways. :D Problem now is that it doesn't look original. I was attempting to bring the bars out without changing the looks too much. The stem is somewhat classic looking but I would say anatomic drops probably aren't.

Oh well I'm sick of fixing up bikes anyways. *shrug*

If his bars are befitting the C&V forum, there's a good chance they're 25.4. That was the size of the Sakae bars that were OEM on almost all of the non-European road bikes in the '80s and '90s.
