Living Car Free - Car out of action

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My car has been in the repair shop for more than a week, it's still there...and i'm loving it! :D

Hey maybe they'll find something else wrong with it and the part will take a week to get to the shop. Hope springs eternal, right?

If you are really lucky, your roof will start leaking, the refrigerator and stove will go south, and the heating/air conditioning in your home will crap out and you can go camping in the backyard! Think of the energy savings!

A mechanical breakdown provides a socially acceptable reason for being carfree. Simply taking the plunge without a cover story may be awkward for some people.

Mines been gone for years...and I'm still loving it.

I actually rode my bike down to the repair shop today on the way to work to see how they were going on my car...do you think that's a conflict of interest? hehe.
If you can go more than a week without it, you probably are ready to go carfree.
Congratulations!

Thank you folks for all those warm fuzzy thoughts :-)

Beats telling them you're biking to work because it's environmentally friendly... If you use that as a justification, most people kind of roll their eyes:rolleyes:

I rode mine to the gas station the other day to get gas for my mower :). I haven't bought a mechanical push mower yet...maybe next year.

My van died a month ago. The mechanic bought it from me. He gave me just enought to buy a new bike :)

This is true. But the one that really rolls their eyeballs is when you tell people you ride because it's fun, it feels good to travel by bike, it even feels good to walk places. "Did you enjoy your commute today? I did!"

My parents just went from 2 car/2person household to 2 car 1 person household, but when it comes to lawnmowers they're ahead of the game. They've been using human powered push mowers (which have the advantage of being almost as quiet as a bicycle) for the last 10 years.

I'm almost afraid to ask...
What happened to the other one?

Oh no! I love it! Being a big fan of peace, quiet and solitude, I have found that when people think you are crazy, they leave you alone. Who wants to hang out with EArth unfriendly people like that anyway?!
