Looking to pick up a Bottecchia fairly cheap and was wondering the year ? I don't have a digital camera so I will have to explain it. I think it's from the 80s with a mix of parts some are campy ( brakes, crank, derailer, hub). There is a carnielli handmade sticker on it, it also ha a campione del mondo 1966-1985-1986 in 3 places, so does that make it 87 or 88. One last question is $300 a good price for it, it is in fairly good shape and looks like 80% original parts.

Thanks,
Gregg

The most important sticker to look for is the one that says "Columbus___", cause Bottecchia has some very nice stuff made from SL and SLX, but they also made plenty of lesser grade stuff from Aelle all the way down to "gaspipe". $300 for an SL frame would be a good deal, for an Aelle frame just a fair deal, for anything lower: a ripoff...just my opinion, of course.

It has a columbus sticker above the dove it says tubi speciali rinforzati (tuve special reinforced ?).Then below the bird small letters acciaio CrMo and in big letter cromor and below that doppio spessore (double ?) so I don't know what model that makes it. Any more info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Gregg

See this: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm
Columbus tubing chart from 1989. Cromor is not as light as SL/X, but lighter than Aelle.
