I was watching the history channel the other night. The Japanese army was riding bicycles across the maylasian peninsula on their way to invade Singapore. The bikes looked just like the one in the pics.
World Famous. Imported 15 years ago. Why do I have my doubts about both of those statements?
Very interestint. And, it's world famous. Wish I could see more pictures of it, tho.

there was an article about the famous Flying Pigeon cycleworks in China in Cycling Magazine in the past month or so - this was the bicycle for the people & literally millions and millions have been produced...
these days other manufacturers are taking most of the market share but the FP is still popular because it is so cheap, it is rarely stolen when a newer brand/model is parked next to it.

Does it only have a front brake? Perhaps; I certainly don't see the second descending control rod on normally expects with rod brakes. I wonder if it's a fixed gear.
I'll keep the UO-8 for commuting, thank you!

They come with a coaster brake. They make and sell more bikes than anyone in the entire world.

Reminds of the type of bike around when I was in my eleventeens By the time I got my Raleigh Trent Tourist when I was 13- The world famous style bikes (Or the Hercules as they were in England) were old hat. Still the bike is worth buying just for taht suspended saddle.

Still less than buying one for $30 in China and having it shipped home.

Article in WSJ about Flying Pigeon and the Chineese bicyle industry in general a while back. The brand went broke after the state pulled their support of the company. They were making something like 14 million bikes a year. Ashes of the company are now buying parts and selling some bikes. Should be quite a good workout on that thing.
The Chinese produce an engine kit to motorize the Flying Pigeon.
