View Full Version : Sci Fi theater: pretend you're the "Traffic Czar"
For the life of me, i can't see why cars are engineered in many cases to easily exceed speeds of 80 MPH when such a speed would be inappropriate and dangerous even on an interstate.

I tend to agree, and have also argued that acceleration rates do not need to be as rediculous as 0-50 in 5 seconds either.
But oddly enough, some folks here on BF believe they should have every right to drive how they want.

Aren't cars equiped with a govener (or what amounts to the same)?
Speed is relative so if the top speed of a car is 30 or 50 or whatever, that's just what it is. Less potential for damage.

I forgot about that. Why regulate just the first derivative when you can regulate the 2nd? ;)

It may be called a rev limiter that's set by manafacturers, but some gearheads can go in and adjust them (or so I've read).
If a manafacturer can set a govener/rev limiter at 120 mph, why can't they be set at 60? Who needs to go twice the speed limit?
