Northern California - Thinking of doing the AV B-ride tomorrow

So I don't have as much to do this Saturday as I usually do, so I was thinking of going on the AV B-ride.

Is anyone from here going?

How is the route in terms of climbing?

How is the pace, and what is the group like?

I have been on a couple of group rides with the Western Wheelers a while back, and some small spontaneous groups that developed while out on the road. Nothing as big as the AV ride.

Any other tips are also welcome.

I am not riding tomorrow. I am riding Canada / 92 to Los Altos Hills on tandem - fast pace.

If SteveE is around, he can give you more of the particlulars. We have recently joined AV and we have not done the B ride yet. It is more of a location matter i.e. we are in San Mateo and the rides originate in Los Altos. But we plan to attend. My impression is the ride is reasonably fast paced with significant climbing. If you are very fast, you will wait at the top for the rest to arrive before starting off again.

The pace on the AV B ride is definitely quicker and more aggressive than any of the WW rides. In fact, I did a few AV B rides, then did a WW ride. First thing I noticed was the pace was much more relaxed on WW. Simply put, AV is an adrenaline rush.

Yeah, I hear you. All the rides seem to start around the South Bay

I live in San Mateo as well. So Canada/92 is the starting point for most of my rides.

I may take caltrain in the AM to get to the ride, I am still sorta scared of my bike rack/ car setup :rolleyes:

SteveE is out for tomorrow's ride, but the sub, Ken, is a regular, and a good guy.

A lot of folks, myself included, are doing the Mount Hamilton Challenge tomorrow. But I'm sure there will be a good crowd out for the B ride, there always is. Enjoy! The nice thing about the B ride is, although there are frequently some hammerheads on the ride, there is also usually a group of less aggressive folks along, too. The ride is pretty much no-drop, but they are not going to wait around all day for every single rider. But rest assured, it is *much* more relaxed than the A ride on Sundays, which is basically a practice road race...

I may have to try one of their rides. It's great since I can ride to the start (Canada/92) from my house, and get some extra riding (climb Crystal Springs, and head down 35).

They start in 30 min though, so I think I will go with AV ;)

There are WW rides that are faster than the AV B ride.

The WW Monday Coffee Ride is a drag race. Fast paceline with several sprints.

The WW Saturday D/E rides are longer and hillier than the AV B ride, also. The WW rides tend to have more regroups than the B ride, although that depends on the ride leader. When I lead a WW ride, the regroups are infrequent and brief.
