Fifty Plus (50+) - 2PMPDT - It's getting closer

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Down to under 24 hours away now...
My playing partner said at practice last night, "It's eating holes in you, isn't it?"
Yes, yes it is...
It's an odd mix of trepidation and anticipation that I feel but I can't wait to get out on that baby...
Love it or hate it, it's mine now

And if you think I'm nutso now, wait until after I get it :D
Ohhh, you won't hear the end of it ;)

Other than the post we get from you tomorrow- Giving us the low down on the spec and the pics and a report on how it was on it Virgin 50 mile ride- Don't expect to hear much from you in the next few days as you will be either out riding or in the kitchen cleaning and polishing the damn thing for the next fortnight.
Hope you don't get delayed on the way to the shop and actually get there before they close- Otherwise it will be another week before you can tell us how good it is.

Those were my exact thoughts, too:)
Enjoy the new ride!

You owe the wife a nice dinner, earrings, something......she's undoubtedly put up with your being benignly unhinged for the last several days. Besides, a good tactic to avoid multiple partner envy as you focus on your new honey-baby.

"Benignly unhinged"??? What, do you know me or something? Wow
Yeah, my poor darling wife puts up with a lot from me but she's had 25 years of practice by living with my *other* affliction. Oh, there have been some sparks. In fact, there is a little payback due from my last acquisition, now that I think of it.

Pity you don't live in the UK as it is about time you left home to get in the queue outside the shop to pick up your new purchase. You might get there a bit early but it is 8:30am over here.

If you hate it, I will pay shippping charges to Denver.
Also, there is a rule for those of us whose wive's also ride. Their bicycle must be better than ours. If the wife doesn't ride, you need to think about something comparable in the same price range.
Im my case, we bought her a Cannondale roadie. But, she never got used to a roadie - even after 600 miles - and we ended up selling it and for the same money, we bought her a Trek Hybrid at an even exchange, money wise.
However, she still absolutely loves her mountain bike, which is what she rides.

Right- It is now getting dark and I am running out of jobs to do. Much longer and I will have to go and do the washing up. How long does it take to pick up a bike?

Why don't you type some messages on the internet in - like - a bicycle forum?

OK, I'm back. My goal was 20 miles... did ~26 miles on the inaugural ride - a personal best! Then, 8 or 9 of those miles came from taking and recovering from a wrong turn. Yeah, I got lost :(
I am beat... Did you know road bikes use a whole different set of muscles (or the same set in a whole different way) than hybrids? I hurt in place I've never hurt before. The bike is amazing and if I don't learn to pace myself better it will eat me alive. It took what I had to give and laughed at me: "Poseur!" Poseur!"
We'll see who gets the last laugh. It responds as if it take pure thought and turns it into motion. edit: Some have made the point that the bike won't make anything easier it just goes faster with the same effort. The associate law (or one of those math laws) would lend that maintaining the same speed one normally keeps, requires less effort. In other words, it IS easier... I wasn't prepared for how much easier. Wow.
Pictures after my nap. Or some coffee...
I am heppy.
edit: Ahhh coffee good!
Somehow, after beating myself to a pulp on the ride -oh there were dark moments- I still had the strength (ok, I ate a 1/2 sandwich first) to lift it up and get it set up in the rack. Ok, it wasn't that hard, the bike doesn't weigh anything.

Just pulled into the driveway and shut 'er off. I looked up and saw this view coming home so I had to get the shot once I got home.
https://home.comcast.net/~96omi/Locked_Down.jpg
Off the rack, wheel, back on, ready to roll away into the garage. But I had to ride one lazy loop in front of the house first.

I hope you realise the tension you have caused us. All that time with no news was most distressing. Anything could have happened- the bike may not have turned up- You could have got to the shop and not liked the colour- You could have sat on the thing and not liked it- Anything could have happened. Don't do it again.
Glad to seee that the bike has the desired effect of upping the milage already. Glad to see that it has started to bite back though. New muscles to work- New goals to go for- and all that eating to be done to replace the calories you will be losing.

I'm sorry stapfam... it's a 45 minute drive down and another 45 back and... and... once I got on the bike I just got carried away and lost track of all time. Getting royally lost did not help, either. I won't let it happen again. Honest.

You might want to adopt the habit of a friend of mine whe puts the garage door opener in the trunk when he has a bike on top, just so there won't be a repeat of the smash off he had one day when he forgot it was up there....Just Saying!

Or, put it in your wedge on your bike.
