Sounds like an interesting idea. I won't be able to use it since I don't work in the area. But it will be right across from the County Administration building and only blocks from City Hall and a lot of businesses, so it should be really great for people downtown.
Here's the info I got. I can't help but thing how these things are possible only when there are enough cyclists around to make such things a viable prospect.
May is National Bike Month and the City of Santa Barbara Downtown Parking and Bikestation are kicking it off on May 1st with the Grand Opening of Bikestation Santa Barbara, at the Granada Garage.
Bikestation Santa Barbara is available to members twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Members choose from a number of affordable payment options ranging from a daily entrance fee of $1 to an annual membership fee of $96. To enter the facility, members simply swipe their automated access key located near the front entrance. The facility has over 70 bike racks, which also accommodate personal bike locks for added security. Members have access to a shower, restroom and personal lockers as well as to a work stand, vending machine and basic tools to perform minor bicycle repairs.
Decision makers and planners included Bikestation Santa Barbara as part of the Granada Garage in order to address some of the primary barriers to riding a bicycle for transportation—secure bike parking and the need for a place to clean up and change out of riding clothes.
Mayor Marty Blum is a strong supporter of building a Bikestation in Santa Barbara. “Bikestation Santa Barbara is a wonderful facility for bicyclists who want to leave their bikes in a safe place. We also believe that many employees from nearby businesses will be thrilled to have access to a shower, changing room and personal lockers. Overall, I believe Bikestation Santa Barbara is a great way to help more people bicycle more often.” Mayor Blum and other officials will be speaking at the grand opening event.
