Northern California - Sierra Century anyone?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Gee..was that a thread hijack or what????
you don't get free advise until you show up for a ride mister! :p
I'm not going to the shop, just parking in the lot so I don't know anything about Chain Reaction  I haven't been in that shop since 1998 :p
Its just a convenient place to park the car to head out on Stevens Canyon :D
There's a Carvell Ice Cream shop right next door, too. :)

I so wanna ride with you guys ... guess there's always Memorial Day Weekend
I'd like to join you all on the Memorial Day weekend ride, if I'm in town. There's a family matter coming up soon - timing is unpredictable - so I'll have to play it by ear.
Now for the ride this weekend ... I'm so confused. :o Is it Sunday at 1:30 at Chain Reaction on Foothill (aka the bike shop next to the Carvell :D) ? If so, then definite maybe. Where are you headed? :o

Yes, we are meeting in that parking lot. Then up through Stevens Canyon and back I think. Nothing difficult, just a chance to get together and ride. Oh and Tracy is gonna demonstrate how fast that new ride of hers is.;)

Yup, Chain Reaction. However, I was told that they wouldn't do servicing on a bike, unless it was purchased there. It's one reason why I took my Seven to Bicycle Outfitters. Maybe things have changed since then ... I hope so ... because it is so convenient there.
When they get too big of a backlog on the repair work they won't take new work orders unless the bikes were purchased there. It's not a snob thing, but they sell themselves on customer service and don't want to make their buying customers wait for two weeks while they work on bikes purchased elsewhere. This usually happens only in the peak season but sometimes the peak season is a long time. So if Chain Reaction is convenient then you should use them but make a phone appointment, don't just show up.

Actually Chain Reaction and Bicycle Outfitters are really close together. It's probably a 2 mile difference between the 2 shops, so distance is not a problem.

I'm going to try to sneak out and try meeting you guys on Sunday at 1:30 pm. I figure I'd at least see you guys in person, to see what ya look like. Hopefully I won't get a call while on the ride. Maybe I'll ride with you guys for a few miles then head back. So if I'm lucky, I'll see you guys in the Chain Reaction parking lot on Sunday.

Aww ... jobob .... I won't see what you look like now. Oh well ... I probably will only be able to say hi, then leave anyways.
Can you make it out to our memorial day ride? Not sure if you had plans or not.

Can you make it out to our memorial day ride? Not sure if you had plans or not. I honestly don't know. That looming "family matter" that I alluded to above - well, my husband's mom passed away yesterday, it was not unexpected, it was one of those "it will happen any day now" sort of things. But at the moment we don't know when the memorial service will be, or when or how long we will be out in HI with the rest of his family, so the next couple of weeks (at least) are totally up in the air.
So Tracy, Davis next Saturday is most likely a no-go for me as well. Argh, I'll see you all one of these days, it's bound to happen. :o
LOL, spingineer, if you ever ride by a woman with a dusty rose Rivendell, with a black canvas Carradice saddle bag & black Brooks leather saddle, and a pale gray helmet with a VISOR   that'll be me. :D

Oh my god, I'm so sorry ... please accept my condolenses. When my mom passed away, it was a complete and utter shock to all of us. There was no "it will happen any day" ... all her organs just started to shut down. And just to think, this happened the day before mother's day ... so so sorry ...

I'll have to keep that in mind. We'll have to see if your visor is bigger than mine ... hehehe
Take care.
aww, you're so sweet, spin. {hug**.
LeeBob (the DH) and I are going out on a ride today after all, we're heading over the Dumbarton and out to Woodside. He'll probably head back for home after that, & I'll try to get over to Chain Reaction by 1:30 (who am I kidding, I'm going to try to get to the Carvell by 1:30) :D
Besides the saddlebag and VISOR  :D you can probably spot me by my Amici Veloci jersey & vest - red background with an off-center green chainring logo. Kind of like this, but with a single large green chainring, and without the bold white lettering:

Better watch out ... we may be stuck at Carvell and not head out to Mt. Eden ... :D
Hopefully I will not get any calls. If I'm lucky, I'll see you there ...

I pulled something on my back yesterday. It's hurting too much today for me to ride the century tomorrow. If you, or a friend, want to make the trip to beautiful Murphys my entry is available.
Let me know.
