Northern California - Sierra Century anyone?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was just reading about this one sponsored by the Sacramento Wheelmen on June 2nd. I think this is the first year they have done it in Calaveras County. Anyone planning on riding this one?

I am also doing it. I liked it last year except for the end in full sun. This year has a new venue in a very beautiful area. The town of Murphy's is well know for its caves.

its already going to be a torture fest... I'm sending VMC presents so he'll make sure I make it up the climbs! :p
I hope they have better luck with the new location. Last year they were shut out of El Dorado County and didn't have the famous Slug Gulch climb. And there was the fellow that went under the wheels of a logging trailer...

Yes, but not their fault. It is one of the best organized centuries I have been to. The motorcycle cops were all over the ride constantly going back and forth to make sure cars drove slow and carefully. The rest stops were very well attended. May be too many riders, and sure too many irresponsible riders. I think they reduced the maximum number of riders this year.

WOW, that doesn't sound good! I got the scoop from the local LBS on the routes... they are supposed to be really nice... I'm doing the 50 but apparently the grades on that route might be a tad steeper than those on the 100... in any event, its gorgeous over there!
Are you riding this year?

I'm going over for a fitting so I thought I'd take a ride while I was there so I asked Sean if he wanted to do a quick ride around stevens canyon....
what is it you do anyway ron? its only a 23 mile ride (unless you are sean and andy, they are making it a 70 miler)... so it won't take very long...

I am in Customer Support. I have to carry the "hot phone", so that in case a customer with a P1 network down occurs, I can help either get it back up, or give him some BS answer until developers can answer my calls. I do support of firewall devices in networking. I officially have to be within 20 minutes of a PC.
Which shop are you going to? Maybe I can meet you there (in plain clothes). Mt. Eden is pretty close by to me ... you going to Chain Reaction or Bicycle Outfitters?

Yup, Chain Reaction. However, I was told that they wouldn't do servicing on a bike, unless it was purchased there. It's one reason why I took my Seven to Bicycle Outfitters. Maybe things have changed since then ... I hope so ... because it is so convenient there.

I'm not going to the shop, just parking in the lot so I don't know anything about Chain Reaction  I haven't been in that shop since 1998 :p
Its just a convenient place to park the car to head out on Stevens Canyon :D
